Launch_K5 CS is a highly interactive 3-day workshop designed for K-5 educators and:
- Aligns to the new Tech Apps TEKS required to be implemented by the 24-25 school year
- Integrates computational thinking, computer science, and cybersecurity into core curricula
- Provides K-5 lessons (unplugged and plugged) for teachers to take back to their classrooms
- Introduces block-based coding and physical computing to scaffold learning with students
- With district approval, completion of this academy can serve as "verification of competency" to teach the Tech App TEKS.
- Includes 6 hrs GT update credit!
Launch_K5 CS offers a unique opportunity for you to connect with fellow educators, learn new teaching strategies and techniques, and deepen your knowledge of computer science in the K-5 classroom.
After completing all requirements of the academy, participants will receive resources and materials for their classroom to begin their launch into CS! This includes a K-2 or grade 3-5 physical computing package.
Participants must work at a Texas school that serves K-5 students.
Audience: Grades K-5 teachers, instructional technology coaches, and paraprofessionals who facilitate Technology Applications classes.
NOTE: Participants may only register for one Academy, even if they teach or coach multiple grade levels.

Learn how TexQuest state-supported digital resources for K-12 public and open-enrollment charter school students help with college, career, and military connections. In the morning, explore resources from Gale/Cengage with magazine, newspaper, and even academic journal articles grouped by career area, as well as resources with features to support college level research and exploration. Information about Chilton Library, Gale’s automotive repair resource (with ASE test prep) will be included. In the afternoon, dig into the new Learning Express resources from EBSCO. Find exam prep materials for AP, ACT, SAT, TSI, ASVAB, and many career certification exams. Learn how students can take interest and skills inventories, explore careers, write resumes and letters, and even search for colleges, scholarships, and jobs. Available materials include practice tests, ebooks, and tutorials for school and career success.

Utilize the pieces of DMAC designed for Administrators, Counselors, Testing Coordinators, Interventionists, Team Leaders and other District/Campus staff. We’ll share tips highlighting how to set up user accounts in DMAC and how to provide access to relevant reports to analyze, trend, and compare STAAR or TELPAS data. Aggregate state and local data with lead4ward and Data Exports. We’ll also show how to create online forms in FormWorks, document Appraisals (including the ability to calibrate T-TESS processes for TIA), and highlight our PlanWorks piece for your DIPs and CIPs!

Use local data in DMAC to efficiently drive student growth and improve instruction. Create quality online assessments aligned to STAAR standards using the TAG test item bank and collect data in TEKScore. We’ll focus on how to create, score and report on assessment items with the new interactive item types (e.g., hot spot, inline choice, multi-select, etc.). Effortlessly analyze results by customizing the options of your favorite reports under the 1-click settings included with the Teacher Dashboards.

Creating Student Plans & Documentation in DMAC

This training is all about student data. With web-based applications such as Student Portfolio, FormWorks, LPAC and Learning Plans, users can easily create digital documentation for individual students. Teachers and Administrators will learn to quickly find students, access state and local assessment history, make adjustments to plans, and record notes or attach files and forms. All data seamlessly travels with the student as they advance from grade-to-grade or change campuses. We’ll also focus on how to incorporate best practices for Early Childhood data (K-2).

What to Expect from NVTA's Certification Course
This course was created to align expectations and add-value for those teaching in a virtual environment. The NVTA certification process was created to establish a valid and reliable research-based teacher qualification training process for virtual teachers to enhance their teaching and develop their ongoing reflective skills to improve teaching capacity. NVTA certification is a challenging and meaningful process to support your personal and professional goals. The expectation is that you meet the challenges of this certification with an open and honest attitude for growth.
Some of the topics to be covered in the Certification include:
- Establishing Relationships in the Virtual Environment
- Virtual Instruction Best Practices
- Differentiation in the Virtual Classroom
- Managing Virtual Resources
Course Components
- There will be a combination of readings, discussion boards, and activities. We expect each certification candidate to complete every lesson with integrity and excellence.
- The culminating product of this certification course will be a digital portfolio demonstrating your proficiency level of effectively implementing a virtual classroom.
- You must receive an 80% or better on your digital portfolio to earn the certification. You will have two chances after your first submission to attain 80%. If you cannot earn 80% after a total of three tries, you will meet with the review board to discuss next steps.
- Once you enroll, you have nine months to complete the certification process.
