Loyalty
The Common Theme in:
The Book of Job
Job encountered a number of challenging situations through out the book, all of which would test anyones faith. The attitude and behaviors exhibited by Job through out the entire story was nothing short of an amazing display of loyalty to The Lord.
The Odyssey
Although Penelope was not the hero of the story, she displayed an incredible amount of loyalty to her husband, even after twenty years and being presumed dead. Penelope was witty and creative in ways to put off marrying suitors.
What does it mean to be loyal?
loy·al
ˈloi(ə)l/
giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.
Why Loyalty?
Although there were a number of themes that were covered in the different stories this course covered, I felt that loyalty was one of the most important themes. This poster will highlight the importance loyalty played in each of the stories as well as provide some examples the were provided in the stories that demonstrated loyalty.
Examples Below
The Book of Job
Job 1:20-21 Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
The Book of Job
Job 42:2 I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
The Odyssey
'Young men- my suitors, since Odysseus is dead-Eager as you are to marry me, you must wait until I finish this robe-it would be a shame to waste my spinning-a shroud for the hero Laertes, when death's doom lays him low. I fear the Achaean women would reproach me if he should lie in death shrouds for all his wealth.'
"We were persuaded by this appeal to our honor. Every day she would weave at the great loom, and every night she would unweave by torchlight. She fooled us for three years with her craft."
