CYBER BULLYING NEWS
BMS students experienced a GREAT assembly Wednesday on Bullying / Cyber- Bullying. The two presentations were presented to Grades 4/5 and then to Grades 6/7. The presentations, while similar in message, were geared towards the audience members' ages and developmental levels.
The assemblies were presented by Mrs. Eileen M. Kneeland the School and Community Outreach Coordinator from Office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. office.
Topics presented and discussed:
What is Bullying and what is not bullying
Bully vs. Conflict
Social media can have potential impact/pit falls for school tuition scholarships, colleges, jobs and even BVT
Digital footprints
We (teachers, administrators and parents) are a team
Re-Think APP
Let's combat cyber-bullying with a FREE app... Rethink. The FREE app was disclosed to our students at yesterday's assembly on Cyber-Bullying. The app was created by a 13 (yes, 13 year old) young lady.
The APP forces the sender to think and reflect before they hit the "send" button by promoting reflective thinking. Easy to install, easy to use and could make a positive difference

NURSES NEWS
To Parents of current 6th Graders - it is a Massachusetts State Law (Chapter 76, Section 15) that all students entering 7th grade have on file in the nurse's office documentation that they have had a recent physical and their tetanus booster. Your student will not be allowed to come to school in September without this documentation. I know how backed up scheduling can be in a busy Pediatrician's office, so please see that you have an appointment scheduled for your child before September.
As always, if you have ANY questions. please feel free to contact me! (mloftus@bpsdk12.org, 508) 883-2248).

NEWS FROM HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Notes from the Athletic Director's desk ...
As a convenience to families, the BHS Athletics Web page has links to available youth programs https://bhs.bellinghamk12.org/athletics-9c2034ea
In addition, where youth programs do not exist in town the athletic department oversees one co-ed sport per season; Cross-country (fall: all grades), Wrestling (winter: grades 5 - 7) and Instructional Golf (spring: grade 7).
Registration for the Spring Instructional Golf program is open to 7th and 8th graders on a first-come, first-serve basis as there are only 12 slots. Players need to have their own golf clubs and this program runs at New England Country Club (NECC) for 10 sessions between mid April and the end of May subject to the weather. This is a range only format at a cost of $125 per participant. The planned dates are ideally Tu/Th after school with parent pick-up at NECC.
To register: www.familyid.com/organizations/bellingham-high-school-athletics
Looking ahead, we will host a Fall Sports / Meet the Coach for 7th graders (with their parents) coming up to the High School in early June. Registration for Fall 2019 Sports opens on or about May 1.
