Fabulous in Fourth

Read Across America

Tomorrow, March 2, is Dr. Suess's birthday and the day we celebrate reading! I've asked students to bring in their favorite Dr. Suess (Theodore/Ted Geisel, Theo LeSieg) books. We'll be picking out our favorite inspirational quotations from these books. Dr. Suess is NOT just for the younger readers. Amazing messages and themes can be found for anyone at any age. Looking forward to a fun day of reading!

CogAT Assessment

This week, we'll be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test. This assessment is given in second and fourth grades at Gower West. It will take approximately 40 minutes three times this week. We'll be taking it at 11:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It will be in the computer lab and the test is read to the students. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

Next week, we'll be taking the PARCC assessment. Although I know this test will be much different than ISAT, I also know our students are intuitive thinkers who are developing their vocabulary and written communication. I am certain they will take this benchmark PARCC with confidence. I am proud of how far they have come and how well they have grown.

Our testing schedule will be next week, Monday, March 9 through Friday, March 13 from 11:30 - 12:30. Lunch will be pushed 15 minutes later to accommodate the schedule. Due to the later lunch, we will take time to break for a healthy snack before testing. Please send your child with a fruit, veggie, or healthy option to provide some energy for testing. Thank you!!

Reading at Home

I recently spoke with some parents about the importance of reading aloud to your child at home. Even at their age, they love to hear you read to them, and it provides a great opportunity to listen to fluent reading as well as opens communication as you can both discuss plot, characters, feelings, and make predictions together. I enjoy reading to my children, and it is a bonding moment for us both. I found the following article recently and thought I'd share with you. http://tinyurl.com/muyaldl

You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book. Dr. Suess

Have a fantabulous day!! Mrs. C
