8th Graders Scheduling for High School
HS Scheduling
On Monday, 1/9/17, eighth grade students were asked to take a letter home to their parents regarding High school scheduling. The high school counselors will be at SMS on January 20th and January 27th to present an overview of the course selection process to the eighth grade students. Following the presentations, students will need to discuss course selections with their parents. Families may access the SHS Program of Studies online, as there will not be a booklet printed as in the past. There will be a meeting for eighth graders and their parents in the SHS Auditorium on February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. to review information shared with students and answer questions. All course request selections should be completed by February 16, 2017. More information on the scheduling process to follow.
Polaris Field Trip
On January 20th and January 27th, eighth graders will be traveling to Polaris Career Center. The Dragons and Crusaders teams will attend the trip on January 20th and the Pirates and Vanguards teams will be attending the trip on January 27th. During the field trip, students will tour the Polaris Career Center facility and learn about the wide array of educational opportunities/programs available.
Polaris Career Center
The attached flyer is for a evening event held at Polaris
on Jan 26, 2017 from 6pm-7:30pm. During this event, Satellite staff and
student ambassadors will be presenting information on our current and
future programs. Representatives from LCCC and Tri-C will be on hand to
discuss articulated credits and CCP credits.
Exploring Makerspace
Makerspace is Ready To Go!
All SMS students attended an orientation in December, and Makerspace is opening this week!
What is a Makerspace?
A Makerspace is a place where students gather and often work collaboratively to "make things." Materials and resources are provided. Materials may be "high-tech" such as 3-D Printers, digital cutters, electronic circuitry kits, and video production materials "Low-tech" materials available include craft supplies, fabric, and building toys just to name a few. Emphasis is placed on creativity, collaboration, innovation, and problem solving. Maker activities support learning targets in all content areas.

PTA Update
Dear Strongsville Middle School Families:
You can help support the SMS PTA and all of the exciting programs it puts on for the students throughout the year by participating in various grocery and merchandise programs. It's that easy. Earn money for your child's school while you shop at the stores you normally shop at! These programs are open to anyone who shops at these stores. So encourage family, friends and neighbors to link their cards too. Any questions on these programs, please contact Kelli at kellijim921@att.net or Karen at klmaddox@wowway.com
AmazonSmiles Foundation
The SMS PTA is excited to announce that we have partnered with Amazon to help earn money for our school through their AmazonSmiles Program. It is as easy as point and click! Simply click on the unique link below, enter your own login and personal account information and start shopping! AmazomSmile Foundation will then donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases towards the Strongsville Middle School PTA. You can help our school earn even more money by sending the link to other family members and friends and encouraging them to use the link when they make their purchases from Amazon.

Giant Eagle Apples for Students Program
For more than 29 years Giant Eagle has supported local schools through the Apples for the Students program. To help SMS make the most of this program simply register your Giant Eagle advantage card and use it every time you shop. A portion of your spending will be donated back to SMS PTA. It’s Easy to Register!
1. Go to www.gianteagle.com/SFTS to sign in or register for an account, or call 800-553-2324 for assistance.
2. Next, visit https://www.gianteagle.com/My-Account/My-School-Programs/ and enter code 2117. You can register to earn points for up to 4 local schools! Don’t know your school code? Search for it by name, city or zip code. This step is important. Just setting up an account in step one does not link your card to SMS.
Heinen's Tasteful Rewards Program
When you sign up for Heinen’s Tasteful Rewards program, Heinen's will donate up to 1% of your qualified purchases made from September through April to the SMS PTA. You must re-enroll in the program each new school year. To enroll, go to http://www.heinens.com and select the link "Tasteful Rewards Program" from the "Quick Links" box towards the bottom of the page. Follow the prompts to enroll your card and select our school. You may also visit the Customer Service desk of any Heinen's grocery store to enroll in the program.
