News for our Families: Week of February 127-March 3
Principal's Message/Mensaje de la Directora
Welcome Back!
Here Comes March!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a great Presidents' Week vacation! We look forward to seeing your student on Monday, February 27th. March will be here soon and spring is around the corner.
At Libby we love seeing your children every day! Attendance is very important! We continue to encourage our families to share the mindset that when students miss school, they miss out on important learning. Chronic absenteeism is a concern and we have many ways to address it.
If your family is in need of resources to support better attendance, please reach out to us. We are a Community School and have supports available to our Libby families. Also, we have on-site counseling support if your child is having difficulties will low self-esteem or confidence. We are here for you!
See you soon!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hilary Cuevas
Principal
Too Early!
There Is No Student Supervision Before 7:45AM
Remember that our gates do not open until 7:45am. We do not have supervision for our students before 7:45am. We see many students outside the gates too early. It can be dangerous to leave students before supervision is available. Also, students stand in the cold weather and this is dangerous too. Please make arrangements to avoid dropping off your students too early. Contact our office if you require support at 760-901-7000. Thank you!
Your Voice Is Important: Take the Survey/Responda a la Encuesta

Reminder! Recordatorio!

Low Cost Computer Event! Register by February 28th
Low Cost Computer Event
Families in San Diego can get used laptop and desktop computers loaded with educational software for as little as $100 at a drive-thru event organized by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and Computers 2 Kids.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon March 4 at Kearny High School, 1954 Komet Way in San Diego. Debit and credit cards will be accepted along with cash.
Those who wish to get one of the computers are asked to register by Feb. 28 to ensure a computer will be available. Walk-ups will also be accommodated if possible.
Each refurbished computer includes Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019 as well as antivirus and education-related software. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for internet access.
Thousands of families have received computers through a partnership between SDCOE and Computers 2 Kids, which has been distributing computers to low-income families since 2004 to help reduce the digital divide between those who have access to technology and those who don’t.
For more information, contact Computers 2 Kids at 858-200-9788.
Positive Behavior at School
The 3 R's at Libby are Respect, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. We remind our students often to be kind which means to interact positively, and play nicely together. Sometimes our reminders must be more serious, especially if a student hurts another student.
When a student hurts another child, we immediately conduct an investigation to find out what happened and why. We must talk to all involved and then we contact families as soon as possible. Often the problem can be resolved through Restorative Practices when students talk it out and repair the relationship. Other times, consequences are given.
Please speak with your child every day about the 3 Rs and when at school, positive behavior is an expectation. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher first. We are happy to answer your questions.
💖 Lots of Love in February! 💖
Celebrating the Contributions of Black Americans

The month of February is designated in the United States as Black History Month, a month set aside to honor the important role that African Americans play in the story of our country. How does your school or community celebrate Black History Month?

Remember to Charge Your Device!
Bring Your Device Charged Up and Ready!
Each day our Libby Tigers use their electronic device (Chromebook, tablets) to access learning from iReady to Nearpod and with many technology based programs. Please help your children to remember to charge their device so that they are ready to learn. If you are having issues with the device, please inform your child's teacher. Build a daily routine of plugging in the device and then bringing it to school.

The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to providing effective educational program options for English learners that meet district and state standards for English competence and academic achievement.
The English Learners Master Plan explains the various program options for English learners. We are proud to offer our English learners the following educational pathways:

Cold and Flu Season is Here!
Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. . See more prevention tips from the CDC.
Safety First!!!
Parent Volunteer Safety Patrol Needed
Libby Elementary always has a focus on safety! It is one of the most important concerns. We would like to start a Volunteer Safety Patrol to help us direct traffic, assist in helping children exit and enter their cars, and keeping our students safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If you have a focus on safety and have time during the morning, 7:45-8:15am and/or 2:10pm-3:15pm, we would appreciate your help. We can create a schedule and with enough volunteers, it would be just 30 minutes of your time once or twice a week. Please contact Mrs. Campisi at kristina.campisi@oside.us for more information. Thank you!
Keep CLEAR!
New Signs! Drop Off/Pick Up Zone
Please follow our new signs and do not drop off/pick up students until you move all the way down the curb. DO NOT PARK ON THE CURB! When you drop off/pick up before the drop-off/pick up zone, cars back up on to W. Redondo Dr and that is very DANGEROUS! Please be safe and courteous for all families and their students.
No Dogs on Campus
📓School News You Can Use 🍎
Call our Attendance Hotline to report your child's absence.
Students Out More Than 5 days Need an Independent Study Contract. Please Read!
Independent Study Contracts
If your child will be away from school longer than 5 days, please let us know ahead of time (at least a week prior) so that we can prepare an Independent Study Contract. The contract will first need to be approved by the principal and will include school work for your child to complete so that the missing days from school will not be considered "unexcused". Please call our office at 760-901-7000 or stop by to speak with an office staff member. Without approval or without prior notice to set up the contract, the days missed will be marked "unexcused". Thank you for your cooperation!
Weekly Envelope!
Every week your child takes home a weekly information envelope. Inside are important flyers, letters, and items that need your attention. Please remove the items and return the signed envelope back to school with your child. Thank you!

Thank you for your help and support.
