Weekly Highlights
Information for the week
ACT 2016
Tuesday is the big day for the class of 2017. Let's continue to encourage them on Monday to help relieve any anxiety for the test on Tuesday. If you have any questions about your role, please check with Ms. Cannon on Monday so we can ensure that everything runs smoothly on Tuesday morning.
After the completion of the test, teachers will have grade level meeting from 1:30 to 2:15. Lunch will begin at 2:30. I hear that Chipotle has a free meal for teachers starting at 3 that day. Our teachers should be able to be first in line. :-)
ARTS Award
Ms. Adams was recognized by the 7th Congressional District Art Competition on Friday. Way to go Mrs. Adams!
Aspen Team
You would have been so proud of the Raby Aspen Team on Wednesday. They represented Raby in an extraordinary way. Although, they were not selected as a winning team, they were still winners! They rose to the challenge like true super stars. Ms. Robinson was an awesome Aspen coach.
Technology Training
If you are interested in participating in a Discovery Education training on how to use a variety of multi-media tools, please send me an email stating your interest.
Unsubmitted attendance
There has been an increase in the last month with unsubmitted attendance. Please make sure your attendance is submitted daily.
Chicago State Free Course
Mr. Johnson recently earned a free course at Chicago State University. He has agreed to allow one of his colleagues to use it. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP so we can complete the paper work.
Career Fair & College Fair
Thanks to Ms. Hampton for a successful careeer fair and to Mr. Draper for a successful College Fair. Friday was an awesome post-secondary day. Thank you to all of our staff for being flexible with the schedule.
Grow Lab
If you have not had a chance to stop by the Grow Lab in the back of the lunch room, you should do so soon! On Friday, Mr. Kosko's students harvested cilantro, mustard greens, and basil. It is amazing to see the students at work.
Mother's Day Brunch
Saturday, May 7 is our 4th Annual Mother's Day Brunch. You are invited to attend. Also, please encourage your students to attend. Tickets are only $7. See Ms. Davis for more information.
Passes
Students are not allowed to leave class without passes. Also, students should not be given passes to run errands (such as the office or to speak with other teachers) during class time.
On a few occassions, I have mentioned that the tough part about teaching is that we may not get to see the fruits of our labor once students graduate. On Saturday, I attended the annual Grip the Youth Fundraiser Dinner. One of our former students, Malik was featured. He was introduced to Grip in his sophomore year, which was also their first year at Raby. They have continued to mentor him and he now works down town on the stock trading floor. Keep working hard to support our students! He is just one of many success stories.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week
