5th Grade ISLQatar Update
March 30th - April 3rd
The students in grade 5 have been busy finalising their central ideas, lines of inquiry and key concepts this week. They are now onto the research phase which includes the students brainstorming what they already know and what they need to find out. From there, they have begun researching through a variety of sources and collecting information.
We have continued learning how fractions, decimals and percentages are connected. This has included fraction, decimal and percentage conversion. We have focused on ordering fractions and looking at equivalent fractions. We have also continued working on fraction word problems which involves the student understanding what the question is asking and then working on trying to solve the problem.
The grade 5 PE unit this term has been a combination of different invasion games. Today the students have been given a worksheet to complete by next week. The task is to design 3 sports superheroes who have superpowers that help them in the different invasion games. This will require both drawing and writing.
Please encourage your child to use our library resource page on the school wikispace (http://gr5islqatar.wikispaces.com/Library). In particular we would like them to look at the 'how to do research' webpage. This is a step by step approach which loads the students with useful tips to help them with researching.
It is very important to keep hydrated throughout the day so please remind your child to bring a water bottle to school.
P.E. is on Wednesday and Thursday. Students should always remember their hats and a change of clothes on these days. They are also encouraged to bring and use non-aerosol deodorant.
