GRE Family Gazette
February 25, 2019
Dear GRE Families,
What a fun week! We had a great time with Read Across America week that topped off with a fun filled Rockin' Recess. Thank you for supporting this PTO sponsored fundraising event. Head to the General Rosecrans PTO Facebook page to see some fun videos of students enjoying this event.
We are just a few weeks away from Spring Break but there is still much to do. This week our 2nd and 4th graders will take the Terra Nova assessment on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. We will also meet in Eagles Nests this Friday to talk about how to be a responsible citizen.
Here's to a great week full of fun, friends and learning!

A Few Important Reminders:
1. The GRE PTO would like to invite all parents/guardians to join their children before school in their classroom for pastries and orange juice provided by us!
Thursday, March 14th @ 8:00-8:30a.m (students with last name beginning A-K)
Friday, March 15th @ 8:00-8:30a.m. (students with last name beginning L-Z)
Please help us prepare with an RSVP by March 5th! Click here to RSVP!
We are also looking for volunteers to help this event run smoothly. FBI/BCI Big Walnut approved volunteers can help to set-up and clean-up on each day. Each volunteer will need to sign-in at the office and keep their volunteer badge visible during their volunteer time. If you are just visiting with your child, you do not have to wear your badge.
Please sign up here if you are willing to assist us!2. Our schools are extremely fortunate to have the support of our parent and community volunteers. While we are continually grateful for this support, we are also aware of the potential concerns that can arise when volunteers are working directly with students. In October of this past year, the district communicated with families that volunteers in the school and on any field trips will be required to have a background check on file with the school beginning on March 1, 2019. If you have plans to volunteer or chaperone any upcoming field trip for your student(s) and you have not completed the application and received a successful background check result, please visit www.bwls.net and select "Volunteer Information" under the "Parents/Community" menu. The application should be filled out at least one week prior to a planned volunteer opportunity or field trip. Additional information on the background check requirement is also available on the website. Thank you for your continued support in promoting the safety of our students.
3. Are you looking for a way that you can make a positive impact in Big Walnut Schools? The district is in high need of substitute custodians and bus drivers. If interested, please visit the job postings at www.bwls.net/EmploymentOpportunities.aspx.
Training will be provided to all substitutes - potential drivers will receive all training necessary to meet licensing requirements for drivers. If you have any questions, please contact Ron McClure at 740-965-8967.
4. Kindergarten and Preschool enrollment continues through March 15th. Check below for details!
