FTISEDTech Teacher Tips
Let's have some fun...
Nearpod Integrates in Schoology Now!
If you aren't familiar with Nearpod, you can find all kinds of materials that support your curriculum here. Everything from grammar to virtual field trips to science. Nearpod is essentially an interactive presentation software that lets you choose to do activities as a full class or as a student self-paced module perfect for centers. Check out the quick video that shows how Nearpod works.
This could be an excellent way to supplement grammar instruction, engage students through virtual field trips in history or provide an alternative lesson choice in math.
See how it works in the video below.
iOS 11 is Killing it with Screen Recording
There are so many potential uses for this. Students now have the ability to record games they make in ScratchJr or Bloxels as evidence of their understanding to upload as assignments or in media albums on Schoology. I was also working with a 5th grade class and a student though to record complex steps for doing things on their iPad as a way to remember, and you can use it to make screen tutorials for how to use apps (like the one below).
The first thing you will need to do is update your iOS to 11, if you haven't. If you're not sure how to do that, let me know! I can help.
OneNote- Personal Notes
If you ordinarily have students keep a notebook that you don't check, why not give them a choice of creating a subject specific notebook in OneNote?
Students will have to log into their Office 365 Accounts to sync their notes to the cloud. But if they have OneDrive on their iPads, and are already logged in, it may automagically log them in when they open it. This would be an amazing tool for sketchnoting (see article below) or math since it allows students to use draw tools, choose between paper types like a grid or lined paper and they can add photos!
The app also has palm detection, which means you can use the app with a stylus and it will detect your palm and not mess up your annotation or drawing.
You can use OneNote to sync your notes to multiple devices - iPad, phone and computer. This might be a great way for you to keep track of student data, lesson notes or important ideas you want to remember. You can also use it as a quick way to show students how to annotate documents.
