Tips from the Counselor-Stress Management
Tips from the Counselor-Stress Management
Student stress is usually related to everyday experiences, worries, and challenges at school, at home, or within a peer group. For example, students may get stressed due to friendship conflicts, low self esteem, academic difficulties, and family problems. While each student responds to stress differently, unresolved stress can lead to feelings of anxiety, irritability, poor concentration, aggression, sickness, and fatigue.
Kids can benefit from learning and practicing stress management techniques. Students who develop these skills are better able to cope with stress in a healthy way. Once students can identify when and why they are experiencing stress, they can take a proactive approach to manage it. Some of these skills may include:
Problem solving
Talking to a friend or a family member
Writing in a journal
Drawing or doing something creative
Exercising
Focusing on self-care (eating well, getting enough sleep, etc…)
