Day 18
Good Morning Friends
I went into school yesterday to meet with some of the construction crew. I am very pleased that they are all continuing to work safely during Covid-19. I will try to grab a picture or two next time I am there for you to share with the kids. We are still planning on beginning our next school year in the new building, a new and fresh start for the kids. We have been ordering furniture, play equipment and science lab supplies.
Times are hard for a lot of people right now, please do not hesitate to reach out to me as there might be a way for our community to support you. SDCCS is a family and we are going to get through this together.
New Guidance on Mask Wearing
For months, health officials have been walking an awkward line on masks, saying they offered little or no protection to the public and should be reserved for health care workers.
That contradiction seems close to resolution now.
The White House, while stopping short of declaring an official policy, joined the mayors of Los Angeles and New York, several European nations and much of Asia in recommending that people wear cloth face masks in public, even if they have no symptoms.
Big Questions
When will this end?
This is a difficult question, because a lot depends on how well the virus is contained.
Some experts have guessed, optimistically, that the virus could abate in about two months, although that does not mean that public life would go back to normal. The more we take early precautions to protect our communities, like practicing social distancing, the better the results will be.
If measures to slow the disease aren’t effective, the virus could sicken millions of people, losing steam on the coasts in May before spreading to the rest of the country over the summer.
