The Lifeband Touch
The Lifeband Touch is a wearable band that clips onto your wrist in a similar way to the Jawbone Up or Nike Fuelband. The touch OLED panel on the band lights up when the user moves their wrist and shows key indicators such as calories burned, distance, speed, number of steps and projected pace, visible by swiping a finger across the display.
Eyenimal
Wearable Technologies is for humans; at least this is what we thought. But we are currently stumbling upon more and more WT products for animals. We don’t think that this will be the ultimate future of WT but we wanted to share our funny yet useful discoveries with you: Have you ever wanted to immortalize your pet on video?
Eyenimal makes this possible. The first video camera for pets is worn on your cat or dog’s collar.
Know When To Go! A Wearable For Bowel Movements
A Japanese company called, "Triple W", is developing a device that can predict bowel movements -- the D Free Device. The device uses a stick-on sensor. The sensor detects when the tummy expands and compares it to when the person went to the bathroom earlier. The D Free device connects to an app. The app maintains a historical record of bathroom breaks. This data will improve the device's abilities to predict when the next bowel movement will occur.
This is extremely helpful for patients that are incapacitated. Examples are those who are paralyzed or mentally unstable. Nurses and caregivers need to know when to change the patient's diapers to prevent infection. The D Free Device is one step towards assurance and confidence in the field of medicine.
Power Vest Helps Caregivers Assist Weak Patients
Patients that are dependent on their caregivers need a tremendous amount of work whether it is being turned over to change their dressing or to carry them from bed to the wheelchair. Most people do not possess the power to take care of their loved ones who are suffering from diseases or conditions like dementia or paralysis that had made them incapacitated.
A power vest can help these caregivers to assist their patients or relatives. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Germany are developing a special “soft robot” vest that give carers "superhuman" strength and prevent back injury.
The caregiver's movements power the device. The vest stores power when the person bends down to help the patient and releases the energy stored when he or she needs it. The strength given off by the vest can be adjusted based on the situation presented. This power vest is the future in nursing homes and care facilities as well as patient care in general.
