Back to School 2022

Welcome back to School! We are thrilled to have so many teachers and students working together this year to make great things!

3D Printing for ALL CMSD

Thanks to the generosity of the Cavs and Goodyear the CMSD Fab Lab is excited and proud to being the 3D Printing for ALL CMSD program this year. Every CMSD school will have a 3D printer in its media center by the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Over the next two years, in five phases, Learning Media Specialists and College, Career and Community Coordinators will be trained on 3D modeling and machine operation before bringing a printer into every media center in the district. (excluding schools that already have a fab lab/ stem lab, vils lab, cavs lab).

We will be the first large, urban school district in the country who will be able to provide access to this modern technology to ALL of our students. Be on the look out for 3D printing in your CMSD school soon!

STEAM Projects in your Classroom

Do you want to do a great STEAM project with your students this fall? The CMSD Fab Lab will be sponsoring 5 projects this fall in K-12 classrooms. Please fill out the project application here to describe your project, what materials and technology you would need and the approximate cost (up to $1000). Applications due by October 1st.

Fab Project Plans by CMSD Teachers

This summer 11 CMSD teachers worked together in a Community of Practice to create Fab Project Plans that can be used in any classroom! The CoP learned about creative project planning at the TPACK pedagogical model before writing these fun and different PBL units in which students use digital fabrication to make and demonstrate their learning. Check out the wonderful lessons in the link below and please share any photos, stories or info about implementing the projects in your own classroom with Fab Lab manager Sarah Wallace.

Innovation Lab at Orchard STEM School

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Goodyear sponsored the design and installation of an amazing new space at Orchard last spring. In the new Innovation Lab, students will be able to engage with 3D printers, electric plotters, eSports, green screens, professional photo backdrops, filming and lighting equipment and more as they create demonstrations of their learning!

Thank you so much to Ms. Duplisea for her hard work on this project!

Upcoming Events

September Supply Pick Up

The CMSD Fab Lab will have a supply pick up day on September 19th from 2-5pm in room 204 of the East Professional Center. IF you have completed training and need to pick up technology, or need additional supplies, please sign up to come by the lab. Registration is in the form below.

Mobile Fab Lab, Workshops, and More

The CMSD Fab Lab program has grown into a wonderful community of teachers who go above and beyond to make great things with their students. I am so proud of all of the work that you all do everyday. Just like you, I am spread thin these days as I am now working with CTE Engineering teachers as well as working on Fab Lab programs. For this reason, the MFL will continue to not be in use this fall and we will not be hosting regular workshops at EPC. We hope to grow capacity this year and bring back these awesome opportunities for CMSD teachers in the spring.

Thank you your understanding during these busy times, and keep making great stuff.
