Principal's Message

I hope you had a wonderful winter break and were able to spend quality time with friends and family. I had a full house during the entire break. Both of my daughters came home as well as some other family from out of state. We spent a lot of time playing games, laughing and enjoying each other's company. If getting through the holidays wasn't stressful enough, we decided to also lay new flooring. So I didn't have the restful and relaxing break I was looking forward to. Hope you were able to rest during your break.

This month marks the end of this grading period. Teachers will work on writing report cards on January 24th, and they will be sent home in Wednesday folders the first week of February.

AVID Corner

In second grade we are continuing our work with identifying Costa’s Levels of Thinking in our daily learning targets. Students are also growing in their individual goals; particularly in ST Math. They are regularly using their ST Math trackers in their AVID binders to track their personal growth. Students are really excited to document the progress they make on a daily basis!

This month in 3rd grade we have been using an AVID strategy called "One-Pagers" to assess our students at the end of some of our units. The students are able to demonstrate what they have learned over the course of the unit, most recently our fossils unit, by creating a poster with some very specific requirements. Some of these requirements could include a labeled picture, a border, multiple facts, etc. By using these One-Pagers to reflect on what they have learned through the course of the unit, they are practicing both summarizing skills and following directions. Included below is a picture of a fossil One-Pager from Mrs. Hill's class.

Dental Screenings

We will have dental screenings from January 13th - 17th. Information was sent home in December with students. Parents must sign the permission form and return to school.

Student Absences

Please remember to call the school office before 9:30am if your student will be absent. If the office does not know about your child's absence then it is considered "unexplained" and will be "unexcused".

Please check with your child's doctor to make sure that your child is up-to-date on their immunizations. Exclusion day is right around the corner (February 19th) and if your child is not current on vaccines then he/she will not be allowed to attend school until they have received the needed vaccines. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
