Shield of Armor
This represents Ella because she protects Z from the bullies at school since he can't protect himself.
Camouflage
Bullies call Ella camo face because her skin is swirls of dark and light brown.
Tug-of-War
This represents Ella because she is torn for friendship between Z, who has always been there for her, or Bailey, the new, popular, cute, and like her, black boy that moves into her neighborhood.
"Anyone who can see will see you beautiful."
This quote is significant to Ella because all through the book Ella doesn't like the way that she looks until her mom tells her this quote and Ella starts to think "maybe, just maybe I'm starting to see". P. 218
Public Library
This represents setting because after school Z usually goes to the library because his mom works there.
Treehouse
This represents setting because Ella, Z, and Millie used to go into their treehouse all the time until Millie left, then it was only Ella and Z.
Casino
This represents setting because Z run away and this is where Ella and Bailey find him.
Resiliency
Ella shows resiliency throughout the book ecspecially when she takes all the bulling for Z and still manages to smile for him. Example: At lunch time the bullies were going to throw Z's lunch trey full of food at him, but Ella jumped in the way and got covered in food for him but still managed to smile and give Z her food so he could eat.
