HERSHEY NOTES

January 29, 2016

FROM MRS. FIELDS

I love the many different tasks I have as principal. The job I take most seriously is providing the safest possible environment for our students and staff.

In light of the recent tragedy at Amy Beverland Elementary School, our faculty reviewed the safety procedures we have in place for arrival and dismissal at Hershey. Please remember that the access road off of 775 that cuts through the front parking lot should never be used when we are unloading or loading buses. This intentional separation of car and bus traffic is very important. If you must pick up a child at the end of the day, please display the child’s names in the windshield of your car.

And finally, PLEASE put your cell phone away as soon as the car rider line starts moving. We had a car jump the curb due to inattention while talking on the phone. Fortunately, no one was hurt; however, we don’t want to risk having a different outcome. We appreciate all you do to help us make Hershey as safe as possible.

THANK YOU!

MRS. LEHMAN'S UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Student Council: We will have a new group of students on Student Council this semester. I am excited to see what great things this group will do for Hershey and our community. Please, remind your child that he/she can still be involved with making Hershey great! Student Council loves to get ideas from other students.

Panther Postal Services: We have a Panther Postal Service at Hershey! Students can write a postcard to another student or staff member to brighten their day. This has been a wonderful addition to Hershey. Student Council sorts and delivers the postcards to each classroom. We all enjoy getting a kind word.

MEDIA CENTER VOLUNTEERS

If you love kids and love encouraging kids’ love of reading, please consider volunteering in the Hershey Media Center. We are currently in need of a few volunteers who are available for about 2 hours per week. Having a helper at our busiest times allows our media aides to assist individual students locating the reading materials they are most interested in.

Hershey Panthers have read over 22,000 books from our library so far this school year. We could not keep up with this circulation without the help of our incredible volunteers.
