Nominate Your Spotlight Student This Week
AM/PM Supervision
We've had quite a few staff members in the last week gone or forgetting about their supervision in the morning and after school. Please be sure to review the supervision tab in OneNote. Below are those staff members scheduled for this week:
- 6th Grade: Mead & Hetrick/Salucka & Hebrink
- 7th Grade: Suthers & Weldon/Vallad
- 8th Grade: Clark/Foss
- Special Ed: Wesley/Rust
Behavior Interventions
- This week, during grade level meetings, Office Staff will talk through students who will start on a formalized Tier II Check In-Check Out process. You'll find a copy of what this point sheet will look like, in addition to the logistics, in your mailbox and attached below.
- On Monday, November 19, we would like 2 representatives from each grade level (1 Core Teacher & 1 Exploratory Teacher as well as 1 Special Education Teacher) to meet from 7:30-11:30 to review and plan our Tier I interventions. Our hope is to involve a number of different staff members not currently serve on a current building team. We will provide subs and will meet here in the building. Please provide me the 2 names from your grade level before the end of the week.

New Information
Student Spotlight
We’re going to continue our Spotlight Students this year, but do it a little differently. This year, we will recognize students at the end of each quarter AND allow each teacher to nominate a student. This means there’s no need for “team consensus” and instead it’s the sole decision for each teacher. We’re going to use our Guidelines for Success as a format for how we recognize students. Here’s the steps we’ll follow.
- Fill out the brief form with the student you’re nominating. Here’s the link to the form: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=YOwudANNxUuJ-8AIc7KP0VMbWnrvzvtHpxFtdVeJErNUMTVCSzZMNVFKRkpWUEY1SjFJTTlVQUJFOS4u
- Fill out your name, student name, and grade in the 365 document. This will make sure that each student gets nominated only ONCE. Here’s the link to the document. You’ll also find it available on the form: https://crdistrict-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/g/personal/lptacek_cr_k12_ia_us/ETHW4R_6iP1Nqr56BUkxPTQBwb8xbKrL9wxbFFpLWtPBOQ?e=bTvM72
Please have your nominations completed by Sunday, November 11.
Fall Musical Teaser
- At the end of Period 4 we will get on the intercom to dismiss
- 8th Grade will be dismissed first to their center section
- 6th & 7th Grades will be dismissed after 8th Grade is seated (KITE Staff-please walk your students up to the 3rd Floor and enter the auditorium from the top of the house to make entering easier)
A couple notes to help supervise students:
- Do not let your classes mix in with other classes as you enter the auditorium. You know students that should not be next to one another, do not let them sit next to each other if there's a chance they'll mess around.
- Sit in the section if there's pockets of students you're concerned about
Annual Charitable Giving
The link for charitable giving went out this from Akwi Nji. In the e-mail, she also relayed the totals in previous years. These charities have a direct impact on the students in our building. I hope you consider to make a contribution to any/all of them. Follow this link to the site for additional information: https://ep.upicsolutions.org/crm/Start.jsp?accountNumber=1395912
Please view the linked short videos about the Cedar Rapids Community Schools Foundation, Community Health Charities of Iowa, and United Way.

BOLT Quarter Awards (Formerly PARRT Award)
With our change to LCA, there is a need to change the criteria for our former PARRT Awards. For new staff, these are awards we give out each quarter based on a set of criteria. These awards include a list of items they can redeem throughout the building, including: Bolt Bucks, Front of lunch line coupons, 1 free homework assignment, Eat in the Student Lounge. Below, you'll notice the criteria we'll use this year. A big change is the removal from the academic pieces with grades. You'll also see there is no criteria for late/missing work. Those two pieces fall within the 21st Century Skills.
- Developing or better in 21st Century Skills
- Fewer than 5 tardies
- Zero Office Referrals
