Principal's Message
SCS Families,
It is exciting to kick off the week with the promise of some extended springtime temperatures in the offing. I just saw that we could hit 70 degrees this week and that freezing temperatures are nowhere to be found in the long-range forecast. Could it be?
Well, assuming that this is not fool's gold, it is GREAT news for SCS and our students. The entire vibe and energy of the fall were extremely positive, even in the face of great challenges. I attribute a lot of those positive feelings to our ability to stretch the boundaries of the traditional classroom and get students outdoors to learn, where it made sense. It feels like we have an opportunity to begin pushing learning outdoors more and more, which will be good for the well-being and health of our students and staff. We have two large tents being erected over the April break, which will only add to our capability to make outdoor learning possible in a safe and comfortable way.
This week, I have some quick hitters to share with you, which I hope you will find informative:
K-8 Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are in full swing throughout the building. All K-4 conferences are expected to be held by the end of March. 5-8 conferences may stretch a bit further and go through the first weeks of April. If you have not heard from your team or teacher about their conference plan, please do not hesitate to reach out. We want to make sure that no families miss out on this chance to connect with their child's teacher or team.
5-8 End of Trimester and Report Cards
The second trimester of the school year ends this Friday for our students in grades 5-8. After the close of the marking period, teachers take just one week to wrap up reporting. That means that I will be pushing out report cards for all 5th-8th grade students and their parents/caregivers on Friday, April 2nd. If you or your child do not receive their 2nd-trimester report via email, please let us know right away. We always want to be sure that the email accounts we have connected to our score reporting system are accurate and functioning properly.
7-8 In-Person Planning
I want to thank all of the families that came out to Wednesday night's information night about our efforts to increase in-person days for our 7th and 8th graders. I especially want to thank those who provided feedback on our 3-day proposal.
I had planned to use this space to provide families a firm plan for how we were going to accomplish our goal of increasing in-person learning despite the distancing constraints we face. But, as predicted there has already been some positive movement on the national and state level around the possible adjustment of social distancing expectations for our older students. I will take today and tomorrow to learn more about the news that just broke on Friday and try to figure out how it should impact our planning and thought process. I will email 7th and 8th-grade families on Wednesday with an update and a firmer plan.
Have a wonderful week!
Updates from Ms. Celmer
In an effort to reduce the length of our PreK-8 Community Newsletter, I have moved our PreK-4 information into the following Shelburne Community School Elementary Newsletter for March 2021. I invite you to click on this link monthly for new updates that are specific to our youngest learners. I hope you enjoy this new format and the content provided. Be well!

CVSD News
Intra-District K-8 School Choice
Children entering grades K-8 who live in the towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston may exercise school choice. Our goal is to both allow options for families and also make balanced class sizes to provide a positive learning environment for all of our children. Processes for intra-district choice of school will be guided by the needs of students, space availability, and existing resources. Given this, we will work to meet as many families’ needs as possible. Guidelines and Application
Food Service
We are so happy to share that the USDA has announced it is allowing schools to continue to provide free breakfast and lunch meals to all children 18 years old and younger. CVSD will be offering in-school meals, pickup, and delivery.
