Hopkins High School
September 2021
Hello HHS Parents and Students!
We are winding down the month of September, and what a month it has been. Some of the highlights have included:
Students and staff getting back into the routines of a traditional school year.
Seeing smiles again!
Student events taking place.
Restarting Homeroom to provide a time for academics, relationships, and community building.
Our attempt at returning to normalcy has had some hiccups, but overall it has been a very rewarding return to school.
October is just as exciting. Continue reading this newsletter for information on:
Homecoming Week activities Oct.4- Oct. 9
Parent/Teacher Conferences Wednesday Oct. 6
Voluntary fall State testing and other testing info.
Buying a yearbook
Other school activities… there is even a job posting!
We look forward to the opportunities presented to us next month.
I would be remiss if I did not point out that our goals include keeping our students safe- physically, emotionally and academically. Please continue to health screen daily before attending. Let’s be smart and respectful of each other so we can keep this school year on track.
Yours in Education,
Ken Szczepanski, HHS Principal

Frequently-asked Questions:
When should I plan on being in attendance for my testing day?
All Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen will complete their College Board Test (SAT/PSAT 10 NMSQT/PSAT 9) IF their parent chose this option (parents were emailed in August regarding student signups).. Normal transportation and meals will be provided on testing days.
How willI we know where to report on their testing day(s)? What should I bring with me? Will safety protocols be in place during testing?
Schedules will be emailed to both parent and student as we get closer to testing days. This will include testing room, times, and materials they should bring with them.
What is the Vo-tech Schedule on these dates if I signed up my child for testing?
No HHS Juniors and Seniors, who are testing on October 13th, will attend Vo-tech on this date. When PM Votech students are completed with their test, they may either go home or report to the library while waiting until the end of the school day. All other juniors will report to their regularly scheduled classes after lunch that day.
Do I need to do anything prior to their testing day?
Here are a few recommended tips before testing day(s):
Make sure you bring a lot of pencils and good erasers. DO NOT BRING A WATCH OR CELL PHONE – PROHIBITED!
Make sure the calculator you bring is an approved calculator. Not sure? Check out the website https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/taking-the-test/calculator-policy to see if your calculator will work for your test(s). Calculators are not required, but are recommended.
Seniors should have a list of the 4 places they would like to send their SAT scores prior to their SAT testing day. Then, while filling in information for the test, they will bubble-in the codes for each of these institutions. These are the 4 locations their SAT scores will be sent to FOR FREE! Otherwise, they will need to log into their College Board account and pay ($12 per location) to send their scores somewhere else.
How will I get my scoring results?
If you include your email address on your testing booklet, then you should receive an email with your results when they are released. Otherwise, results are sent directly to students once the state releases the results.
If you do not have a College Board account and would like to create one do that you can review College Board test scores, follow the steps at https://www.hpsvikings.org/our-schools/hhs/testing/college-board-khan-academy-account-creation/ to create one (recommended) so you can see your results. Otherwise, the school will receive final scores and will share these results with the students as soon as they are released. These reports will show you your strengths and weaknesses (areas to work on for improvement before graduation). Please remember, due to FERPA laws, that students are the only ones who can access their own scores online (not the HS office). If you are having issues with your College Board account (ex. forgot username and password), then you will have to call them directly for assistance.
What should I do if I still want to retake the SAT after I get my results?
Any student interested in retaking the SAT must register online at www.sat.org to sign up to test (elsewhere) on a National SAT Testing Date. You can choose any west Michigan location (many to choose from) where you will take this test. You must also bring identification with you on testing day – so please follow the steps on how to do this on www.sat.org under “Photo ID requirements”. Please remember that there will be a fee for you to retake the SAT, unless your retake date is here on October 13th.
When will Spring testing take place this year?
Spring testing will take place the week of April 11th, 2022. These tests are state-mandated. As soon as official testing dates are official and finalized, they will be shared with parents via newsletter.
