MY READING TIMELINE
My Reading Through the Years
2-3 YEARS OLD
When I was really little, my parents would read to me before bed every night, and my grandparents would do the same when they babysat me during the day. Some of my favorites were Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Berenstein Bears, and Little Critter
6-8 YEARS OLD
When I got to kindergarten, my mom started me off reading chapter books such as the Junior Nancy Drew's and the Boxcar Children. From an early age, I discovered that mystery was my favorite genre, and by the time I turned 8 I was reading the Nancy Drew series independently
10 YEARS OLD
When I was 10 years old, I read my first young adult series-Lily Dale, by Wendi Corsi Staub. They grabbed my attention from the very beginning, and as soon as I finished them, I couldn't wait for more. I started reading the Blue is for Nightmares series by Laurie Faria Stolarz, and haven't read anything but young adult novels ever since
11 YEARS OLD
In fifth grade, we started reading books aloud as a class, and I strongly disliked it. I like being able to pick my own books, and to read on my own, at the pace I please
12 YEARS OLD
In sixth grade, we were required to start tracking our thinking while reading by writing entries in our Reading Response Journals whenever we read. I didn't like this at all-it's easier for me to keep track of my thoughts in my head, rather than trying to get them down on paper
13 YEARS+
It was in sixth grade that I started branching into other genres besides mystery, starting with the popular young adult series Maximum Ride and The Hunger Games trilogy. I loved everything about them, from the characters to the plot-lines. Although my favorite genre remains mystery, I'm now more open-minded when it comes to choosing books to read
MY FAVORITE BOOKS
TEN, BY GRETCHEN MCNEIL
"Ten teens, three days, one killer". A house party on a secluded island turns into a deadly fight for survival when one-by-one, guests start getting killed off.
NO SAFETY IN NUMBERS, BY DAYNA LORENTZ
"150 stores, one bomb". Thousands of people are trapped when a mega-mall is forced into quarantine after a bomb planted in the air duct releases a deadly-and extremely contagious-virus.
SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY, MAYBE, BY LAUREN GRAHAM
Written by actress Lauren Graham, "Someday, Someday, Maybe" tells the story of a young girl named Franny trying to find her way into the acting business in New York City.
THE LYING GAME, BY SARA SHEPARD
When Emma Paxton arranged to meet the girl who she's discovered to be her long-lost identical twin, Sutton, she never expected this to happen. She never expected to find out that Sutton had been murdered. And she certainly never expected to have to take Sutton's place.
MAXIMUM RIDE, BY JAMES PATTERSON
A group of kids who were bred with avian DNA and have wings as a result take flight cross-crounty to try and find their real families, while simultaneously evading enemies who want to capture and experiment on them.
