A Message from the Principal
‘You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.’ Matthew 5:14
Our theme this year is from Matthew 5:14 as we are bringing LIGHT to St. Anthony Catholic High School. We have had a fruit-filled year with many wonderful events that brought our community together. We kicked off the year with a wonderful presentation of Theology of the Body. Our students were given a compelling message on how God created each of us with so much love and when we know the love that God has for us, we live differently. The month of September brought us a packed ‘Meet the Teacher’ night, winning volleyball games, the beginning of football season, a lovely and well attended Grandparents Day mass and celebration, a very informative ‘College Talk’ Night, class retreats and many new opportunities for our students.
This month, we had a wonderful opportunity to honor Solidarity Day with the Archdiocese with our special speaker, Maurine Molak, the co-founder of David's Law. She brought an engaging message to our students and parents by sharing her story and offering tips on how to monitor cyberbullying. And, today we had a successful day of PSAT testing. We prayed with the students this morning and blessed them as they began their test. We are anticipating the scores back in early January. We will have a 'PSAT Score Night' to help parents understand what the scores mean and what course of action to take to continue the journey to college.
We have also begun our middle school tours which have all been very successful thanks to our student ambassadors connecting with their schools. All the students have amazed us with their great speaking skills and love for our school.
Earlier in September, we had UIW On-The Spot Admissions that allocated nearly $2 million in scholarships for some of our seniors. Seniors also had a chance to spend the day at UIW on September 17, 2018 to have a glimpse of college life. We will be registering students for the Spring 2019 semester dual credit classes early next month. We are meeting often with UIW to expand our connection and coordinate the best opportunities for our students.
We had the brightest light shining on our campus this past Monday as we had our Strategic Planning Kick-Off Meeting with our Partners In Mission Consultant. Our Strategic Planning Committee currently consists primarily of our board members and UIW employees who have been great advocates for our school and have been cheering us on over the past year including our President, Dr. Thomas Evans. It is an honor to have him and many others from UIW on this journey with St. Anthony Catholic High School. Our Steering Committee Chair is Dr. Denise Doyle, (Former UIW Acting President and Chancellor) as she is also our new Board Chair. We are working with Partners in Mission to help guide us through our first-ever comprehensive strategic plan that will take nearly 2 years to complete as we begin, 'Living the Mission...Pathways to Vision 2024'. We will be sending out more information on this process to help everyone get involved and understand this tremendous initiative our school is working through. We have a very exciting time ahead of us.
We feel very blessed to have such wonderful students and parent participation with our events. Thank you for allowing us to serve and educate your children. We are working everyday to make this the best school and a school that has the light from heaven shining upon us.
Heavenly and Gracious Father, thank You for your bountiful blessings you have given St. Anthony Catholic High School. We have made it this far because of You and the work You do in each of us. We ask that you bless Your children here at our school we are building for You. Hear their prayers and hearts so that they can feel Your great love for them and live the best lives. Bless their homes with much love. Guide us each day to become more like you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
May your life be blessed!
Dr. Kristina Vidaurri
