Types of Mining
Surface-Subsurface
Surface mining
This is the excavation of minerals from soil or rock on the upper layers of the earth's surface.
This is also harmful to the environment because it removes large acres of land and destroys habitats.
Strip mining
Where the upper layers of the earth is excavated to reveal a tabular (flat) layer of minerals.
Open Pit mining
Mining within an open pit or burrow in order to extract minerals within a large area.
Mountain top removal
Extracting the minerals from the top of a mountain, and at the same time removing the upper parts of the mountain.
Subsurface
Where they extract minerals and ores from beneath the earth's surface.
This could also cause pollution in underground reservoirs.
