Career Resource Center
The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce is offering pre-employability leadership training to Genesee County high school students, who are currently 14-18 years of age and in grades 9th-12th grade in the 2018/2019 school year. Successful completion of this program will be your entry to apply to the 2019 Summer Youth Initiative Job Fair to access employment opportunities throughout the year.
The first set of dates (September 17th-October 18th) will have a session here on our campus. We will hold an additional session in the winter (February 18th-March 21st). Please see the link for more information and an application. https://tinyurl.com/y7k9g43g Completed applications can be turned in to either of the Career Resource Centers.

Library
News from your Library Team:
We have had a lot of changes this year. Due to the closing of the West Campus Library, weeding and reorganizing has taken place. There are two places for you to visit.
First, come and see the new set up in the Library. It has been redone so that it is more like a bookstore. Books are arranged by genres.
Second, take a look at Room 506 to see if you would like to have any of the copies that have been purged in the reorganization.
Our Library team this year consists of Shannon Schwegler, Carol Bush and Christa Duetsch with Kate White (Kimball, she got married over the summer) as our District Librarian.

College Board Accounts: 9th – 11th grade
A College Board account is required of all students. If you do not have a College Board account already set up, please do so at www.collegeboard.org . The student needs to be the one to set this up. Do not set up a second account. This account is needed for PSAT9, PSAT10, and SAT review, score viewing, and score sending to colleges. Please keep your login and password somewhere where you can find it as needed. These accounts are sometimes used during class time. If you already set up an account and cannot remember your login and password information, please call College Board at 1-866-756-7346. Staff do not have students information.

Attendance
- Excused and unexcused absences add up to too much time lost in the classroom.
- Students are at risk academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days. Once too many absences have occurred, they can affect learning, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.
- Sporadic, not just consecutive, absences matter. Before you know it - just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10 percent of the school year.
- Avoid unnecessary absences. Some absences are unavoidable. Occasionally, children get sick and need to stay home. What is important is getting children to school as often as possible.
