Teacher of the Year
Every year we get to nominate one teacher to represent YSES as our Teacher of the Year. This is always a tough decision as all of the teachers at Yellow Springs are incredibly dedicated to our students. This year, Mrs. McCole is our very deserving nominee. Mrs. McCole is a dynamic teacher who embraces her children in a positive and productive learning environment. She cares about her students inside and outside the classroom. She is often seen at students’ events outside of school including running with our Girls on the Run team. She also is giving back to her own Alma Mater Tuscarora HS as a swim coach. Congratulations Mrs. McCole!
Applying to Attend a School Outside the Child's Attendance Area
This is a reminder that the FCPS Assignment and Transfer of Students Regulation 400-15 is revised to include new application dates.
Parents/legal guardians who wish to apply for a child to attend a school outside the usual attendance area must do so between January 2 and March 1* prior to each new school year.
FCPS has posted the out-of-district application today at www.fcps.org in the section labeled For Families and Students.
Here's a direct link:
https://pubforms.fcps.org/view.php?id=11214
Note: Schools that are projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are restricted, so that only students residing in the school's attendance area may go there. Students may not transfer to a school projected to be over capacity. FCPS has published the list of schools that are restricted for the 2019-2020 school year:
https://www.fcps.org/about/news/1650698/fcps-announces-schools-restricted-for-out-of-district-transfers
*In the prior version of the regulation in place last year, the application window was April 1-May 31. In 2019, FCPS has posted the application online, due by Friday, March 1.
Out of District Transfers Restricted
FCPS will restrict out-of-district transfers at 26 schools in the 2019-2020 school year, in accordance with FCPS regulation 400-78.
Based on enrollment projections, the following schools will be at or near 100% capacity when schools open in September 2019. Consequently, their enrollment is limited only to those students who reside within each school's attendance area.
Restricted elementary schools are:
Brunswick
Centerville
Deer Crossing
Green Valley
Hillcrest
Kemptown
Middletown (Elementary and Primary)
Monocacy
New Market
Oakdale
Tuscarora
Urbana (at Sugarloaf)
Valley
Walkersville
Waverley
Yellow Springs.
Restricted middle schools are
Ballenger Creek
Crestwood
Monocacy
Oakdale
Urbana.
Restricted high schools are
Middletown
Tuscarora
Urbana
Walkersville.
FCPS publishes a list of restricted schools annually. Parents and guardians must renew out-of-district transfers for students every year. Transfer requests for students whose daycare providers are located outside their assigned attendance area will be denied if the school the child would be attending has been declared restricted.
The at-capacity schools that are restricted for out-of-district transfers in September 2019 will continue under that designation for the 2019-2020 school year. School designations are re-evaluated annually based on projections.
Parents or guardians who wish to request an out-of-district transfer must apply by completing the appropriate form, online at www.fcps.org in the section labeled For Families and Students, beginning January 2 and through March 1, 2019. Those seeking to renew a request approved for the current school year must re-apply online, also between January 2 and March 1, 2019. Families will be notified of the decision by April 1, 2019. For assistance completing the form, families may call 240-236-2493 starting January 2.
Out of District Changes
Out-of-district applications will be accepted by the Department of Student Services office from January 2 to March 1. This applies to 1st time applicants and students reapplying.
