A Message from the Principal
Dear Cherokee Families,
This week at the APT meeting, Gillian Goodfriend, our APT president, shared a video she made of all of the events that the APT has supported at Cherokee thus far this year. It is unbelievable all that the APT and the Cherokee parents do for our students, staff and families. Enjoy the fantastic video that Gillian created to see the wonderful things we have done this year so far. The students and staff work so hard every day, but this video also showed that we have had so much fun together as a community this year. I am so excited to experience everything that the next few months of school bring and all of the fun times ahead as a Cherokee community!
Hope your families have safe travels if you go anywhere over the long weekend, and enjoy the time together as a family!
Sincerely,
Kate
A couple of highlights for special attention:
The students met their goal of 600 Cheetah Paws as a school for demonstrating cooperation and courage. They have earned a special dress up day on Tuesday, February 21st- Wear Your Favorite Sports Team Apparel. They have worked as a team to reach this goal!
Review the Read Across America and Spirit Week fliers. Cherokee will be doing a coin drive to benefit Antioch Traveling Closet during Read Across America Week. If you want to learn about Antioch Traveling Closet please watch this video.
Reminder Pop Tab Program:
Cherokee is participating in a school-wide service project to help support local Ronald McDonald House Charities. Our school-wide goal will be to collect 40 pounds of pop tabs by the end of the school year! Students can start collecting tabs at home and bring them in now!!! Tabs can be from any aluminum can. The funds generated from the recycling help support the Ronald McDonald House programs in the Chicagoland area. Additional information can be found by viewing this link https://rmhccni.org/get-involved/pop-tabs/. “Your good deeds might seem invisible, but they leave a trail that is imprinted on the hearts of others.”~unknown

Book Fair Volunteer Sign-up
Krina Lessard is organizing the Scholastic Book Fair at Cherokee on Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th. It is such a wonderful annual event! We need parent volunteers to help make the Book Fair a success. Volunteers will work the registers for book purchases and help families as needed at the event. The Book Fair takes place in the Multi-Purpose room at Cherokee during conferences. With this being run when the kids are out of school, you are definitely able to bring your kids with you to volunteer. My kids have always loved coming with me - and they end up racking up a hefty bill as well!
