Manatees have tapered bodies. They have claws like fingernails. Their colors are either gray-brown or gray.
Manatees surface about every 5 minutes to breathe. When they rest, they surface about every 20 minutes. They kiss each other to say hello.
Manatees live in fresh or salt water. The water needs to be at least 10 feet deep for them to live. They may live alone in spring, fall, and summer. They come together during the winter.
