Learning On Display: Build a Better Book
Students at Southeast Junior High worked with their teacher-librarians, Chelsea Sims and Diane Brown, to create a tactile children's book and work to better understand different types of learners. This was part of the Build a Better Book program, out of the University of Colorado Boulder, whose goal is to engage youth in the design and fabrication of inclusive materials for all learners.
If you would like to see this project in action or have your students take on this challenge, learn more by watching the latest Think, Make, Innovate episode created by the GWAEA Digital Learning team. Twitter: @DLGWAEA Instagram:@dlgwaea
If you have learning we could exhibit in the GWAEA Media Center, please share your project here.

From the Desk of...
"ScienceFlix starts out with a Watch It! video clip to get learners engaged before reading information. Then there is the Read section that provides different reading levels and has a read-aloud feature to support different student needs. There are experiments, enrichment areas, and information on careers. This has been a very valuable resource for differentiation."

World Kindness Day: November 13
Many plan to observe World Kindness day collecting or giving donations of food, clothes, money, books, or other items needed by groups of people. It is also a great day to encourage students intentionally to say “thank you”, smile at a new person, or a multitude of other small, but kind, acts. These could be sharing positive notes or quotes, complimenting others, and random acts of kindness.
Random Acts of Kindness is a non profit organization promoting kindness every day. They offer free curriculum for K - 8, their lessons also cover digital citizenship and self care for teachers.
Do Something .Org is an organization with the global mission for good. It features stories about youth using their voice and actions to make the world a better place. It also offers guidance for those who also want to “Do Something”.
