Grizzly Family Update

Dear Families,

Thank you for a great first week!

We spent our first week working on routines, safety procedures, connecting with people (staff and students), making sure we know our bus driver/number, and learning more about one another. It was so nice to see students playing outside, learning in their classrooms, walking the hallways safely, etc. And, it was so nice to hear laughter, coversations, cheers when a goal was scored, and students collaborating on various tasks in the classroom.

Each morning, classes screen for Covid-19 symptoms (in addition to the screening you do at home). Please keep your kids home if they have any symptoms or are not feeling like themselves. We need to know where our students are, so please make sure you are putting in their absence.

We did a great job of litterless lunch this week! A reminder that whatever comes to school in lunchbags should be returning home. Why the extra rapper? Your child may have accessed the food share program while at school. Thank you for checking in with your child about their likes and dislikes for lunch items!

We cannot wait for Week 2 and all that is to come!

Sincerely,

Jean Paquin, Principal & Emily Stephen, Vice Principal

Scholastic Orders

This fall, we have decided to do Scholastic orders as a school - Flyers will be sent home Monday. There is absolutely no pressure or obligation to order. We will work as a school team to purchase books for the library and/or classroom libraries with any proceeds. Ordering is all completed online using our school code RC237200.

An update from the Boys and Girl's Club:

"BGC South East is currently working hard to recruit qualified staff for our Joyceville and Glenburnie after school programs. We appreciate the patience and understanding of families while we work to get this program operational. We will continue to provide frequent updates to the school and community and will reach out to those parents who have applied for the waitlist to confirm spaces once we have secured our staff teams."

There plan is to offer after school programming for students age 4 and up.

Triboard Busing Information

There will again be an increased likelyhood of bus delays and cancellations this year due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transportation to and from school is not guaranteed. Families should have a backup plan to transport their student(s) to school, and to arrange child care where required, if their bus is cancelled for any reason and they cannot transport their student to school.

Families should ensure they are signed up to receive direct notifications, either by email, or Tri-Board’s app. Delays and cancellations are also posted to Tri-Board’s Twitter account.

Within the City of Kingston, secondary students have access to free Kingston Transit bus passes. If your student doesn’t have a pass but would like one, please visit the City of Kingston website. All children under the age of 14 may also ride Kingston Transit for free. No pass is required. Please note, all passengers on Kingston Transit are required to wear a face covering/mask.

If students are unable to find an alternate route to school and cannot attend in-person due to bus cancellations, teachers and schools will work with affected students and families to ensure students are kept engaged in learning. Families should contact their teacher directly to determine a plan for the makeup of work.

LET YOUR BUS DRIVERS KNOW YOUR PLANS...

If you are driving your child, please ensure your child's bus driver knows your plans. This will help immensely. Thank you!

What is the best way to receive messages from the school?

If you are new to our school, please take the time to download the School Messenger App to stay connected and report student absences. If you wish to receive our weekly family updates, please follow the instructions for selecting email as one of your preferences.
