Sixth Grade Weekly News
Welcome to sixth grade!
The Significant 72
The first three days of school (72 hours) are a crucial period in the development of student to teacher & student to student relationships.
As sixth grade teachers, we C.A.R.E.
C-Create connections with and between students.
A-Accelerate growth by knowing their story.
R-Recognize effort and accomplishments.
E-Ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.
This week we spent our days getting to know each other through ClassBuilding and TeamBuilding activities. Some of the activities included a baseball game, class challenges, and community building. These ClassBuilding and TeamBuilding activities extend past the Significant 72 into the rest of the school year.
A Peak into Next Week
Reading: Our reading unit will focus on building a reading community.
Math: In math we will be exploring rational numbers.
Meet the Teachers
This is my 27th year of teaching and my 21st year teaching at Goodrich School. I have been very fortunate to work with such wonderful students, parents, and staff throughout the years.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University in 1979 and a Master's degree in Technology in Education from National Louis University in 2002.
I have been married 35 years to my husband, Steve. We have raised three wonderful children right here in Woodridge. Our oldest son, David, is 31 and a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, with a degree in jewelry/art. He is now a district manager for Jared Jewlers and living with his family in Pittsburgh, PA. Jackie is 27, and a graduate with a degree in theater from Illinois State University. Our youngest son, Kevin, is 26 and a recent graduate of DePaul University in accounting. He is now in Dallas, TX working for Fidelity. It has been a lot of fun watching them grow into young adults and take on so many different interests.
My first grandson, Brandon was born on May 9th, 2013. He is so precious and so much fun to be around!
This is my first year in the Woodridge 68 school district, and I am excited to say that I have joined the best school in the district! The families, staff, students, and leadership of Goodrich School have made me feel so welcomed. Thank you for that!
I am originally from New Buffalo, Michigan, but I have been living in Arizona the past 7 years going to school and teaching 3rd grade, 6th grade math, and 7th grade math. I have a Masters degree from Arizona State University in Education Leadership.
I am thrilled to be teaching 6th grade along side Mrs. Trabilsy. Our goal is for the sixth graders of Goodrich to grow both socially and academically. We have many fun, engaging, and rigorous lessons planned for this 2015-2016 school year!
