Microwaves
And stuuuuuuuuuuff
What is a microwave?
A microwave is an electromagnetic wave with a length of 0.001–0.3 m, shorter than that of a normal radio wave but longer than those of infrared radiation. Microwaves are used in radar, in communications, and for heating in microwave ovens and in various industrial processes.
How do they work
Microwave ovens use radio waves at a specifically set frequency to speed up water molecules in food. As these water molecules get faster they begin to vibrate at the atomic level and generate heat. This heat is what actually cooks food in the oven.
Who invented it?
Percy Spencer invented the modern microwave oven after World War II from radar technology developed during the war. Named the "Radarange" It was first sold in 1946
Why was it invented?
Spencer's invention was an accident, One day in 1945 he noticed that a candy bar he had in his pocket was beginning to melt. The microwaves from a radar set he was working on were cooking his candy bar while it was in his pocket! After a while Spencer figured out he could concentrate the radars to heat food, the first thing he cooked was popcorn
