Genetic Variation
Biology 2- Lynsee Devers
What is Genetic Variation?
Genetic variation is the variation in genes and alleles.
It's important because it provides the genetic material for natural selection.
What are examples of Genetic Variation?
Some examples are:
Crossing over- when a leg of one chromatid and a leg of another chromatid break off, switch places, and reattach.
Independent assortment- it doesn't matter what way the chromatids are arranged, it is random and different for every chromatid.
Brown Eyes
One of the many colors you can have.
Eye Colors
A fascinating amount of combinations can make these colors, thanks to genetic variation.
Hair Colors
You can be born with many different hair colors and some statistics show that certain eye colors go with certain hair colors sometimes.
