Library Support

The library is here for our students AND all teachers! Please do not hesitate to ask for help with a project. Here are just a few ways that the library can support students and teachers:

  • Offers a diverse variety of print and e-books as well as a professional collection for teachers
  • Collaboration--We offer classes for research skills, book speed dating--helping students to find an independent reading book, library orientation, information literacy training, book talks, Backpack help, etc.
  • A quiet space for students to work on projects
  • Classroom space to facilitate small group learning
  • Poster printing and laminating
  • Digital media lab with green screen
  • A commons room to use for teacher meetings or small group testing
  • A monthly library trivia contest for students: Visit the top of the third column on our Welcome page for more info--feel free to share this link in your Google Classroom. Below is a poster that you can use in your classroom and Google Classrooms.
  • Twitter and Instagram accounts to keep you aware of events/promotions: @DossReads
  • Much more!

View available class times on our library calendar, which is also available on the Welcome page of the LibGuide.

LibGuide Highlights

Please be sure to bookmark the Doss LibGuide on your computer and encourage students to do the same on their chromebooks. The LibGuide features a WIDE variety of learning resources, access to our library catalog, news about promotions and events, including library trivia and much more! Here are a few highlights to check out:

  • Books, books, books and more NEW books! We have SO many fantastic new titles. Check them out on the "New Books" and "Find a Good Book" tabs. You can also view our new books slideshow on the LibGuide. Please feel free to share it in your Google Classrooms!
  • We rolled out the e-books collection last year and it's been a hit with students. We feature many titles that we may not have in print (or print titles that are super popular and always checked out) and it's a great back-up plan for students who may forget their IR book at home. We have over 1,000 titles to choose from--and there are also many audiobooks! Students can use the notes and highlighting tools as they read. Check out the e-collection by visiting the "New Books" or "Find a Good Book" tab on the LibGuide and click on the MackinVia icon. Students can also download the app to their phones.
  • Speaking of e-books, we will be adding a BRAND NEW ELL collection. Spanish and French along with a few other language titles will be available to support our ELL students and Spanish teachers. I am also adding some Spanish titles to our print collection.
  • Not sure what to read next? Let the library help! Fill out the BookFlix form and we will create a list of personalized recs for you! The BookFlix form can be accessed at all times on the "Find a Good Book" tab.
  • We are incredibly proud of our career pathways at Doss. In support of our programs, the library is focusing on adding to our career learning titles. Check out some of our newest additions on the Academy Career Books slideshow. The slideshow can also be accessed on the "College & Careers" tab on the LibGuide.
  • Be sure to checkout the "Teacher Resources" tab for lesson planning support. There are a TON of resources, including the Teacher Resources Padlet organized by subject area, new professional collection books slideshow, links to the academic standards, curriculum planning documents and so much more!

Whew!!! That was a lot of info, but seriously there are SO many ways we can support you and your students on the LibGuide...check it out!
