Panther Planner

Week of October 7 - 11

Big picture

Dear Paloma Families ~

Hello, October! We are edging into autumn...crisp morning air, fewer hours of daylight, and Parent/Teacher Conferences. :)

Last week our teachers sent out information on how to sign-up for your child's/children's conferences using Sign-Up Genius. If you have not yet signed up, please do so today. :)

If you need assistance locating the link to Sign-Up Genius, please email your child's teacher.

Remember, that if you need to change your conference time, you can go back into Sign-Up Genius to cancel and reschedule your conference time. The time that you signed up for has been reserved for you and teachers are not able to accommodate walk-in meetings without an appointment. Thank you for your understanding.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are a great time to learn more about how your child's learning is progressing academically as well as socially/emotionally. Our teachers have spent a great deal of time preparing for your child's conference and look forward to the time that has been set aside to discuss your child's progress at their scheduled conference time. Below are some things you may want to consider as you prepare for your child's conference to make the most of the time that has been set aside for you. We know that we are all BETTER TOGETHER....home, student, school. We are a team!

Reminders and Updates:

  • Our Panther Pounce fundraiser has come to a close. Thank you all for your commitment to PES and to supporting out PTA fundraiser. We are tabulating our final totals and will share with you how we did to fund items such as field trips, assemblies, and other needed school items. Thank you again for your generosity and support!

  • We continue this week implementing Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). This week, our Location Expectation is for SHED. For those of you that do not know, the SHED is where the recess equipment is kept and students are responsible for checking out/in the equipment they use. Students will receive instruction on how to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible in this location. See the copy of the expectations poster below for your reference. Classrooms will participate in lessons each day to teach the expectations that are new this week as well as to review the expectations for the areas that have been previously taught.

  • ELAC ~ Our second ELAC meeting of the year is this October 11, at 9:30. ELAC is the English Learners Advisory Council. All are invited! Translators, child care, and snacks will be available! See our website for more information as well as for minutes of our first meeting.

  • At the end of the day, when our student supervision has ended (about 3:35 pm on M, T, Th, and F and about 1:15 on Wednesdays) all remaining students will be brought into the office. Please come into the office to sign-out your student if you arrive after the above times. Student safety is a top priority. Thank you!

  • Please take a few minutes to complete the TVUSD LCAP survey. Your opinion counts and matters! Families were sent a link via email to the survey. PLEASE use the link that you were sent. If you did not receive a link, you may access the survey here: https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/lcapsurvey PLEASE take some time to complete the survey. This information will be helpful as the district and school board move foreward in creating the LCAP plan that will be in place for the next 3 years. Let's see how high we can get our PES percentage and really show that Paloma Rocks!

Have a GREAT week!!

WE ARE Panthers, WE ARE Kind, WE ARE 'Pawsitive', WE ARE SAFE, WE ARE RESPECTFUL, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE, WE ARE Paloma!!!

Warmly,

Kim Mazelin

Principal

Tips for Parent Teacher Conferences ~

1. Talk to your child and ask what they think is their strongest subject and why.

2. Write down your questions for the teacher and consider asking such things as:

  • How is my child doing in each curricular area?
  • Are there areas in which my child needs to improve?
  • Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
  • Is my child working up to their ability?
  • How well does my child get along with others?
  • Is my child completing and turning in classwork/homework?
  • How can I help at home?

3. Share with the teacher things about your child that the teacher needs to know. This will make it easier to meet your child's needs.

4. Arrive for your conference on time. Teachers have many conferences and even a five-minute delay can throw off their schedule. If you have to postpone the meeting, please do so in a timely manner. Your time is valuable and so is the teacher's.

5. Show your child that school is important to your family by attending the conference.
