Literacy In Action
-
This week we continued Unit 8. Our big question this unit is: "What's worth protecting?" This week we focused on using different reading strategies to help comprehend text! We have also been discussing facts verses opinions. Students are doing a fantastic job determining the difference between the two and finding examples of these within the text. Next week we will wrap up Unit 8 with our final unit test on Friday!
This week we continued to discuss helping verbs with the present progressive and the past progressive. Next week we will be discussing future progressive and future tense verbs.
Math
Fourth Grade: This week in math we finished up chapter 11. Next week we will begin chapter 12 which focuses on rates. Students will learn what basic rates are, solve rate problems, and compare different rates.
Fifth Grade: They are continuing to work through chapter 11.
Indiana History
The students have really enjoyed working in our 4th grade social studies curriculum. This week we began discussing chapter 4 which will discuss: new technologies and improvements in transportation and how it can have a positive effect on economy; population influxes and how that can create new problems that require new solutions; workers taking jobs that help to grow industries; and growth in agriculture, industry, and business and how that brings new opportunities and challenges to Indiana. There are a lot of online resources, and they are excited to learn all about Indiana!
Hoosier Project (Writing):
The students have been working hard this week to complete their "All About" papers for their famous Hoosiers! Next week we will be starting our opinion writing pieces about our Hoosiers. This will be done in class.
*Reminder: The "Create" portion of the famous Hoosier project is due Monday. The rubric and guidelines for these projects came home last week. Please let me know if you have any questions! I can't wait to see how fantastic they look!
