How to Pay for College
It's never too early to start thinking about how to pay for a college education. Which path is best for your student, your finances, and your family? What are the options? What is important to know and plan for NOW, even if this is several years away?
Check out this helpful article with some great tips!
Calculating GPA
A student's GPA (Grade Point Average) impacts many opportunities the student has. It affects eligibility for sports, programs, activities, scholarships, and college. In middle school, we like for students to learn the basics of how to calculate GPA. It gets more complicated in high school, but for now, here's how it works:
- Each letter grade on a progress report or report card gets a value: A= 4 pts, B= 3 pts, C= 2 pts, D= 1 pt, and F= 0 pts
- Add up the points.
- Divide by the input, which is 6 in this case because our students have 6 classes.
- GPA is usually in ____. ____ ____ form, with no rounding!
Have your student track his/her GPA throughout the year. Is it high enough to play sports (2.0 or higher required)? Is it high enough to get into the college he or she dreams of attending? Could you consider setting a GPA goal for the students in your family?

Free and Reduced Lunch
Currently, all students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch, regardless of their eligibility status. Even so, we strongly encourage you to complete a new meal application if your household qualifies. In addition to meal benefits, students eligible for free or reduced-price meals can receive free or discounted testing fees, camp registrations, high-speed internet, and other benefits. Schools also receive a portion of their funding based on the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on their household meal application, regardless of whether that student is attending mySchoolOnline or in person.
