A Message from the Principal
It has been an incredible week of generosity! This week we wrapped up our Food Drive, and I am astounded. Our Cheetahs donated just shy of 3000 items to the Sky Valley Food Bank! This food will help so many in our community. THANK YOU!!
This morning we had a wonderful assembly to celebrate, honor, and show respect to Veterans. In November, we focus on being Respectful Cheetahs, and our students lived up to this value at our assembly. We were joined in-person by some Chain Lake family Veterans, and we also had the chance to learn that three of our staff members are Veterans. Thank you to Ms. Hampton, Ms. Mel, and Ms. Debbie for your service!
We also viewed a slideshow of many Veterans connected to our students' families, listened to music from each of the branches of the armed forces, and Cub Scouts from Chain Lake performed a color guard flag ceremony. As we head into this long weekend, I encourage you to ask your students what they learned about tomorrow's holiday.
"The willingness of America's Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude."
- Jeff Miller
Warmly,
Ana

MSD Highly Capable Program Referral Window
Every fall, we start the process to identify new students to receive highly capable services. As defined by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), highly capable students are those who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments. The mission of the Monroe School District Highly Capable Program is to identify and serve highly capable K12 students by providing a consistent, challenging and supportive educational environment within the resources of the district.
Any student in grade K, 1, 3, 5-11 with parent/guardian permission may be referred by staff, family, or community members. All 2nd and 4th graders are universally screened and therefore do NOT require a referral form. The nomination process for the Highly Capable Program opens on November 7th and closes on December 9th. When a referral is received, the screening process will be triggered to determine a student’s eligibility for highly capable services. The screening dates are TBD.
The Referral Form will be available in Family Access on November 7th. If you prefer paper copies, they can be found on our Highly Capable Program web page or here: English / Spanish.
For additional information, including Characteristics of Highly Capable Learners and Hi-Cap Handbook, please visit our website: www.monroe.wednet.edu/academic-programs/highly-capable

What happens when you turn on a light switch? How about when you turn it off? This week we are learning about circuits: open and closed circuits and that electricity flows in a circle. We will have some sparkly fun.
Parent HUB
Please join us for coffee and pastries every Wednesday (that school is in session) from 9:00-10:00 am in the Parent HUB. This is a great place to get information and to make contact with other families in the Monroe School District.
