Dear Parents and Guardians,
Oyama has a very busy schedule planned for February. We hope you mark your calendar to be sure you don't miss anything.
#1 Oyama has been home to the Good News Club for the past 10 years. This year we will begin on Monday, February 5th. Please be sure to sign your child up for this fun filled hour every Monday from 2:30-3:45 here at Oyama! The Good News Club will meet every Monday until April 22nd.
#2 Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Feb. 8th & 9th. Teachers will contact you for an appointment to let you know when to meet. This conference is important to determine if your child will move on to the next grade level.
#3 PTSA Meeting - Thursday, February 15th @ 2:45 in the Oyama library. We will be planning for the Spring Festival in March and need parent volunteers to help plan.
#4 February Student of the Month - is early this month due to Rodeo Vacation. Student of the Month will be Friday, February 16th @ 7:45 in the library.
#5 Rodeo Break: February 22-23.
PARENT TIPS: Your student's whole career in Math depends on knowing their facts!!
Please Help!
Math. Our students need all the help they can get to help them learn the math fluency facts. These are the foundations for ALL math at ALL grades. If they don't learn them, they will always struggle in math. Please work on these facts 3-5 times a week with your child:
- Kinder - Fluently add and subtract within 5
- 1st grade - Fluently add and subtract within 10
- 2nd grade - Fluencly add and subtract from memoryall sums of two one-digit numbers. Fluently add and subtract within 100
- 3rd grade - Fluently add and subtract within 1000, fluently multiply and divide within 100, know from memory all multiplication products through 10x10
- 4th grade - (all previous year goals) plus Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using standard algorithm (+, -,x, /)
- 5th grade - (all previous year goals) plus Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using a standard algorithm
IT'S VALENTINE TIME!
To help us celebrate our PTSA will be selling "Val-a-Grams for $1. Students can buy them ahead of time and they will be delivered to the student they are bought for on Valentines Day!
Also, we will be selling Stuffed Valentine Dragons for $3. Be sure to buy one when they begin selling as these hot little dragons will go fast!
CHARACTER STRONG February Theme: Honesty
Students spent January showing what perserverance looks like to each other and to their teachers. In February they will be focused on showing "honesty" behaviors. Classes will vote at the end of the month on the student in their class who they feel has has shown the most honest behavior during the month of February. Those students and families will be invited to our Student of the Month breakfast and celebrated for their behavior on Friday, February 16!
