Where We're Wild About Learning

SNOWAPOCALYPSE

In preparation for possible snow days this week, I have sent home a novel for your kiddos to read. The girls are reading Rita Williams- Garcia's One Crazy Summer and the boys are reading Judith and Dennis Fradin's Stolen Into Slavery.

Both reads are from Scholastic Books and are children's novels but due to the subject matter (slavery and the 1960's) there might be what you consider questionable language a time or two. Specifically, the Stolen Into Slavery book will have the word "hellhole" and "nigger". I have told the students if they read something they are unclear about to share with you to provide clarity.

Also, please note the Stolen Into Slavery book is one of the books the recent Hollywood hit, "Twelve Years a Slave", is based on. This movie IS NOT SUITABLE for your children.
