COVID Updates

COVID Case Update

There are 2 classrooms in quarantine and 3 reported cases of COVID at Peirce, 2 of which were actionable. CPS has released an updated district data monitoring tool that can be found here.

Testing

Shannon Jiamachello, Resident Principal, is coordinating COVID testing at Peirce and is in collaboration with CPS. You can reach out to Shannon with questions related to testing by email at sljiamachell@cps.edu.

CPS has increased the amount of time that a COVID tester will be onsite from 2 hours to 6.25 hours. Testing is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 4th.

If you have not yet signed up your child for testing you can do so by either:

  • Complete the COVID-19 Testing Consent Form that was emailed to all parents and guardians from CPSnoreply@cps.edu on Friday, August 27, 2021 if you want your child tested.
  • If you did not receive the email from CPS, you can complete the paper version and return to your child's teacher.

Indigenous People's Month

Peirce will be remembering Indigeous People's month during October by participating in a schoolwide reading of Fry Bread (Kevin Noble Maillard) and We Are Water Protectors (Carole Lindstrom). After reading these stories, teachers will guide students in age appropriate activities that follow the themes of the books and also highlight Indigeous People and their culture.

Reach out to Samuel Lee with any questions at swlee@cps.edu

Safety Drills

In accordance with the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, the administration team will be conducting safety drills throughout the month of October. Earlier this week students experienced an evacuation drill (also known as fire drill). On Tuesday, October 4th students will engage in the required lockdown emergency drill. The lockdown drill will be conducted in adherence to COVID-19 precautions to ensure student and staff safety. The purpose of a lockdown drill is to ensure students and staff are secured to avoid unsafe/unsecured conditions. The purpose of the drill is to prepare students and staff in case of an emergency. Before the drill teachers will review with students the importance of a lockdown drill and what students would need to do in an actual emergency.
