Congratulations BRMS Baseball Champs!
The 2019 Black River Baseball team capped its stellar season with a 3-1 win over Mountain Lakes to finish 12-3. Connor Villalobos pitched a complete game, and Dylan Swartz put the icing on the cake with a two-run single. Huge congratulations to every player this season!
8th Grade Travels to Washington, DC
The 8th grade had a wonderful trip to Washington, DC! Highlights included a dinner cruise, a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, and a tour of the U.S. capitol. It was a memorable experience for all.
7th Grade Diversity Day Highlights
For the past 15 years, the 7th grade culminates the Biome Zoo Project (an interdisciplinary project for history and science) with a day that celebrates the cultural differences of people around the world. It begins with a game designed to teach about how we should be understanding of each other's differences. Next comes our special Queen Nur, who shares stories from around the world in an interactive, energetic way. Then, the finalists in the Biome Zoo Project make their pitches on why their zoos should be built. When it's time for lunch, a barbecue is provided by the PTO. Finally, student volunteers present to their peers on different aspects of their own cultures.
6th Grade LEAD Graduates Celebrate with Ceremony and Pool Party!
On Friday, June 14, the 6th grade LEAD program culminated with a graduation ceremony followed by a pool party and barbecue. LEAD teaches students valuable life skills such as decision making, goal setting, and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Many local dignitaries attended the event, including Police Chief Williver, Mayor Asdal, and Mayor Hoven.
BRMS Students Earn Google Certification!
Congratulations to Anthony Levine, Jeevan Shah, and Harry Tomasco for becoming certified in the Google G Suite. The students had to pass a two-hour exam in order to qualify. Great job!
6th Grade Greek Day Brings the Spirit of the Games to BRMS!
On Tuesday, June 18, the sixth grade homerooms competed against one another at Greek Day, a culminating activity that highlighted the study of the Olympics. Due to the rain, the Olympians faced off indoors, but the spirit of competition was alive and well, and great fun was had by all!
7th Grade Travels to the Bronx Zoo
Seventh grade students have studied the diversity of life and how it influences the cultures of an area. The Bronx Zoo is the perfect place to investigate a wide variety of animals and the different biomes in which they are presented. Students and chaperones explored the zoo in the sometimes drenching rain. However, the weather proved to be a gift in the end, since so many of the animals were out and about. A good time was had by all, and many memories were surely made. Thank you to all of the chaperones who helped make this trip possible!
7th Grade Students Featured on Local Radio Station!
On Thursday, May 30, three students from Mr. Pizzo's class traveled to local radio station WRNJ-AM where they appeared on the "Morning Mike Show" to read the public service announcements they created. Congratulations to Harrison Tomasco, Alessandra Wallace, and Emily Wallace!
