What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

This week we had a sight word review with 25 words. Our new author study is Tomie DePaola. We read one of his stories called Now One Foot, Now the Other. The skill we focused on was cause and effect. We identified several elements of cause and effect in this story. In grammar, we reviewed contractions. We took our 4th CARS test. It is in your child's Friday folder. Please review and sign it over the weekend and send it back on Monday.

Math

What a great week it was learning all about fractions! We kicked off our week exploring candy and seeing how candy is divided into equal parts. We learned that a fraction is a part of a whole. The part is called the numerator and the whole is called the denominator. We loved using colored Goldfish to sort and then write the fraction for each color that was in our cup. We ended our week making a mosaic picture with different colored squares and identifying what fraction of each color we used to design our picture!

Hebrew

Dear 2nd grade parents,

This week was all about Passover— פסח ; we read the holiday story, sang holiday songs, learned related vocabulary and practiced for the Seder.

Here is some Passover vocabulary to review:

קְעָרָה- Passover plate (KE-AH-RAH)

חָמֵץ- not kosher for Passover (CHAMETZ)

לֵיל הַסֵּדֶר- the night of the SEDER= order (LEYL HASEDER)

הַגָּדָה- book of telling the story of Passover (HAGADAH)

עֶשֶׂר מַכּוֹת- 10 plagues (ESER MAKOT)

In our Ariot book, we covered the letters פ (PEY), פ (FEY) and ף (FEY SOFIT).

Shabbat shalomשַבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Galia Sabbag

Social Studies

We have been reading about our new unit Using our Resources. We read all the lessons these past two weeks and made our vocabulary note cards. Also, we practiced studying with our note cards. In your child's folder, are the note cards and a few workbook pages that are a good reference to use when studying. The pages to study are: 22, 24, and 28. Page 30 is a review, and is confusing, so I told the kids just to use their vocabulary note cards instead! I will have a tutorial on Tuesday from 3:20-3:45 and the test will be on Wednesday. If you would like your child to attend, please email me so I know who to expect.

Important Dates

3/23-1:45- 2:45 PM, our 2nd grade class interactive Passover Seder

3/24- tutorial for Social Studies test

3/25- Social Studies test, chapter 3

3/27- April lunch orders due

4/2- Recycling project (bring items to build your project), 12:45-1:45
