A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

Due to our extended weekend we have a very short week starting on Wednesday. I hope everyone is enjoying the break! I will keep this message short, just like this week!!

There are just a few things to cover for this coming week! First we want to thank our volunteers for helping out this past week with rehearsals, equipment, water, traffic and the litany of items they help cover!

Next we need to make sure everyone does their individual video recordings for our composite band production! Make sure you follow the instructions in the email that was sent and most importantly have fun while making your video!!

A reminder about grades!! Please make sure you are taking care of your assignments, tests and daily grades! Per Dr. Wright’s email Friday afternoon, this nine weeks only, you may submit missing work for FULL credit! Take advantage of this opportunity!!! Eligibility is coming soon and we do not want lose any students due to failing grades!

Finally we have no football game this coming week and we only have practice on Thursday evening! Let’s make sure everyone is ready to go for Thursday’s practice! We want to add more music and movement to our show in time for the Johnson vs McCollum game the following week!! JOHNSON: this is us!!

Have a great week,

Mr. Lucita

Up & Coming Game (Instead of Homecoming since JHS doesn't have any graduates yet!)

Rookie Corner

This section is for all new (Rookie!) parents! Here we will focus on various points of information that we believe would be helpful to families new to the Jaguar Band.

Welcome to the Jaguar Band Family!

"Jaguar Band"

Includes Winds, Percussion, and Color Guard students! The Jaguar Band directors all feel strongly that, together, these sections make up the "Jaguar Band". So if you receive a communication that speaks to the "Jaguar Band", whether your student plays clarinet, snare drum, or is a member of the color guard, "Jaguar Band" means you too!

October (aka "Bandtober")

During a normal year the Jaguar Band participates in marching contests every Saturday in October as well as all Varsity "away" football games. Saturday marching contests usually last all day - typically requiring students to report to the band hall at 6am and not returning until around 11pm.

Columbus Day Holiday: Though it's a school holiday, we usually have rehearsal on this specific holiday because it falls in the middle of our competition season. Please keep in mind that this is NOT the norm for the Jaguar Band, so take advantage of this long weekend because we hope NOT to have it next year!

October 23 "UPCO"

Johnson High School is only in its second year, so we don't yet have any graduates. This means, we don't yet celebrate a Homecoming weekend. However, we DO celebrate an "Up & Coming". Band and Color Guard members can may wear small mums to the game; however, they may not be pinned or attached to their uniforms. Around-the-neck mums work well. Mums also may not be worn during the halftime performance. October 23 will be our 2020 Up & Coming game, so check Facebook and JHS school newsletters for more information!

Volunteer !

You don't have to be a "veteran" member to volunteer for a committee! In fact, with such a young band, it is more imperative that rookie parents step into roles early - just like our students are having to do! We will start preparing for the 2021 marching season this Spring so please know that we will be reaching out via email soon! Or better yet, let us know if you have any particular interests by filling out our Committee Interest Form!

Visit our Facebook page for more photos from Friday's game!

Football Game Information: Volunteering, Live stream games, Reserved parking, and Jag Swag!

VOLUNTEERS

Please know that we LOVE how many parents are offering to volunteer this year to help with pit crew. Unfortunately, due to COVID and in order to follow district safety regulations, we have been limited to only eight people that can be designated as Pit Crew and receive free admission to the games.

Please know that other parents can assist with any unmet pit crew needs or chaperoning RR breaks but those volunteers must purchase a ticket and will not be able to return to stand seats after assisting. Ticket-holder pit crew or chaperone volunteers must remain with the band.

  • All volunteers at Shelton games must purchase a ticket. (*this requirement does not apply to the designated 8 Pit Crew volunteers)
  • ALL volunteers will be required to fill out the COVID protocol google doc listed on the athletic booster website on the day they volunteer. This MUST be done for every game.
  • All volunteers must wear a mask at all times.
  • All pit crew and chaperone volunteers located near the band must wear their issued band volunteer shirt.
  • If volunteers arrive during school hours, they will also be required to check-in at the school front office. The front office will verify that volunteers filled out the form.

Pit crew volunteers should contact Clover Clamons at pitcrew@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and to obtain their volunteer shirts

All other volunteers, including chaperones, should contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and obtain their volunteer shirt.

Watch Live Varsity Games

The band will only perform at "home" games (and the Lehman "away" game). Fans can watch all home and away games at http://vypelive.com/web/team/view?id=6600. Please feel free to share!

Reserved Parking Spots

The South parking lot at Shelton Stadium is a reserved parking lot for Varsity Games. We are selling the reserved parking spots to anyone who might want one. This will guarantee you a spot until kick-off. All information regarding the parking spot is located on our website.

Football Program Ads: Celebrate your student! Promote your business!

Missed the deadline to submit your celebration ad? Well, it's not too late! We are still taking orders for FOOTBALL PROGRAM ADS and ask all of our band families to share this information with friends and acquaintances. Ads submitted before the next printing deadline (generally Fridays) will be included in the next weeks program. For details and templates, click here.

Order a personal ad to celebrate your student in this year's Jaguar football program! These programs are a great keepsake and is open to all Johnson students. Your personal ad will be featured in every home Jaguar football game program published this season! The football programs are also great advertising space for local businesses!

The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band!
