Superintendent Entry Plan
Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski developed a plan for her first year as superintendent in District 41. She presented the plan to the Board of Education and the Board voted to approve the plan. The purpose of the Entry Plan is to establish priorities and plan a series of activities that will guide the superintendents transition to the district. The plan is three phases 1) Transition 2) Listening, Learning & Relationships 3) Lessons Learned & Next Steps.

Parent Safety Session - Thursday, October 3
Glen Ellyn School District 41 and the Glen Ellyn Police Department will host a Safety Information Night for parents on Thursday, October 3, 7 p.m., at Hadley Junior High School, Library Media Center. Information will be shared related to safety drills in the schools including the new requirement to conduct active shooter drills within 90 days of the start of school. District 41 will conduct these drills in all schools prior to winter break. This will be the second school year District 41 has conducted active shooter drills. In District 41, the staff and students learn the Run. Hide. Fight. technique and the drills are conversation based only. The children do not practice running, for example.

Dr. Jean Twenge: iGen: Why Today's Hyper-Connected Kids are Growing Up Less Happy and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood
College of DuPage (COD) Student Resource Center (SRC) at 7 pm
The iGen are growing up more slowly, spending less time sleeping, and less time with their friends in person – perhaps it's why they are experiencing unprecedented levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Here are the facts supporting the cultural changes shaping today’s teens and young adults – and learn how their changed world has impacted their emotional, psychological and social well-being Adult participants will discover how they can harness the positive trends of iGen, while mitigating the negative ones. Students who attend will better understand how the huge technological shift of smart-phones has affected their mental health and learn how to find a better balance with technology to be healthier and happier.

Rachel Simmons: Enough As They Are: Helping Teens Move Beyond the Impossible Standards of Success.

Today’s teens may seem more successful yet they’ve also never struggled more with anxiety, stress and depression. Simmons exposes the dilemma of a narrow and unattainable visions of 'success'. Simmons translates the toxic messages that teens have internalized; and provides the tools young people need to practice self-compassion and pursue their purpose knowing they are enough as they are. Here are the strategies to help all youth overcome brutal self-criticism, acute fear of failure, and feelings that they will never be successful enough, attractive enough, thin enough, popular enough, or sexy enough. Join us and learn the tips to help teens take healthy risks, navigate social media, manage overthinking, and prioritize self care to not just survive but thrive. Students are encouraged to attend.
