For Students

Socrative

Socrative lets teachers engage and assess their students with educational activities on tablets, laptops and smartphones. Through the use of real time questioning, instant result aggregation and visualization, teachers can gauge the whole class’ current level of understanding. Socrative saves teachers time so the class can further collaborate, discuss, extend and grow as a community of learners. (Taken from http://www.socrative.com/)

This will be perfect on accessing students and figuring out how the things you are teaching are being received. It is pretty self-explanatory with the above description on how it could be beneficial.

Google Drive

Google drive would be a great app to use as a teacher. You can upload files and assignments online that can be easily accessed by the students.

This will be beneficial because the students would be able to access assignments from home. You could use it for more than just assignments though and offer extra readings or even take home quizzes.

Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere is a great tool that allows you to create a poll online that people can than respond to. It is easy to use a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone to respond to the polls.

As a teacher this would be another great assessment tool but also a tool that gets the students engaged in the classroom. It is always nice to take even a few minute break as a student and try something new such as taking a poll.

Story Kit

Storykit is a multimedia storytelling mobile app . It allows its users to create electronic storybooks and share them with others . Storykit is a practical tool for teachers . They can use it to create their own storytelling books and share them with their students . It is all free and anyone can use it easily . Storykit is compatible with iPod touch, iPhone touch, and iPad .(Taken from http://www.educatorstechnology.com/2011/05/storykit-free-mobile-multimedia.html)

This would be a great app to mix things up for teachers even for students to use for an assignment if desired. I feel if we are using technology in a classroom we should be using it to mix things up for the students and thats what using this app does.

Tom and Bens News

This last app is more of a fun one to use with students. Here you get an animated cat and dog to repeat whatever you tell them to say. They act as newscasters when they share it.

You could use this as a teacher to share current events or even get the students to use it for projects with you. It will be especially fun to use at the elementary level with students.
