Arts Education Throughout Kings County
Hanford West High Love
The Hanford West High School Musical Theatre students created their first virtual performance video singing "As Long As There is Love" from the new Broadway musical "Mrs. Doubtfire" by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick. The students drew inspiration from the fact this musical went dark in March 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. They hope this video will warm people's hearts and will inspire our community to find goodness... "wherever you go" and "whatever you do."
Students also created two "Husky Howl" videos for Halloween.

Pioneer Middle School Halloween Concert
The Pioneer Middle School Band presented a virtual Halloween Concert for their parents on October 26th. Students practiced their music and submitted their recordings to Mr. Bentley. Being an avid technology specialist, he was able to put the students' videos together for the event. The students, and especially their parents enjoyed their first virtual band concert and look forward to presenting their next performance in December.
Pioneer Middle School Posters for Peace
Students at Pioneer Middle School were able to participate in the International Peace Poster contest this year. They have been putting a lot of time into their posters. It has been really wonderful to see that even in chaos and uncertain times, these amazing minds still have the most extraordinary visions of what a peaceful work might look like. The theme for this year's competition was "peace through service". The students and staff are so grateful that the Hanford Breakfast Lions Club give them this opportunity every year.
Hanford Elementary School District Peace Posters
Hanford Elementary School District art teachers have been busy making pre-recorded art lessons for Kinder-8th grade students and teachers, as well as live art lesson with grades 2nd-8th. Like always, students are excited to participate in the art class, even via distance learning style. Both John F. Kennedy and Woodrow Wilson Jr. High schools had students participate in the International Lions Club Peace Poster Art Contest which is held every fall. Here are some outstanding HESD Jr. High student submissions for the Peace Poster Contest. Peace through Service was this year’s theme.
HESD Virtual Music Lessons
The HESD Band Directors are creating classroom music lessons for all 4th through 6th grade students to view. Each week a new installment is released. So far they have covered the topics of a basic timeline of genres of music, the woodwind family, the upper brass family, the low brass family and the percussion family. Each lesson also touches on reading music notation and rhythm. Students will continue to explore those areas in more detail as well as world music and jazz.
Kings River-Hardwick Online Learning
At KRH the students are working very hard to make art during these challenging times. The students log in once a week to a pre-recorded lesson by Mr. Vatcher the Art Teacher. They have been learning how to draw a variety of cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob and Garfield via directed drawing lessons. There have also been lessons on master artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Rousseau.
