News from Eli Terry
A Peek Inside the Week - Jan. 27th, 2023
A Note from Your Principals
One of the things we appreciate most about our ET staff is that we work together to provide a high-quality education for children and families. We place great value on seeing our students demonstrate continued success and academic progress as they move through their academic journey over the course of a school year, as well as their K-5 career at Eli Terry.
Over the course of the last few weeks, your child(ren) have engaged in their winter benchmark assessments in reading and writing. Not only do these updated assessments highlight the tremendous progress students have made over the past 5 months, but it provides our teachers important information to help ensure that students are on-track, prepared and ready for the second half of the year. With this updated information about individual strengths and areas for growth, teachers will be able to design a variety of whole-group and small-group lessons to meet every students' unique learning needs. In addition, they'll likely be sharing this data with you to connect and collaboratively support students in the areas they individually are working to grow, and continue to celebrate together the progress they are making.
As we head into February, we look forward to continuing to create opportunities that make our school a place where all children enjoy learning, develop strong relationships, and continue to grow each day socially, emotionally, and academically. As always, thank you for your continued support!

Meal Train for the Goetz Family
As our school community knows, the Goetz family experienced a devastating house fire the week before Christmas. Our Eli Terry and South Windsor community rallied to help them with monetary donations, clothing, Christmas gifts, gift cards, etc. They are lucky to be settling into a rental home but still need our love and support! One of the ways we'd like to continue to help them is by providing some home-cooked meals.
Clicking the link below, will take you to a "Meal Train" page where you can sign-up to provide a home-cooked meal. Since both boys are car riders, meals can be brought to school and they'll be taken home with the family at pick-up!
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. Thank you for continuing to wrap this family in love!
There's still time for YOU to participate in The Great Kindness Challenge!
Share your gratitude for ANY member of our Eli Terry community using this quick Google Form! Your shoutout will be shared on our morning announcements, through a "shout out" card, and/or on the PTO Facebook page!

Eli Terry is so excited, for the first time ever, to be participating in Global Play Day on Wednesday, February 1st!!
The goal of Global Play Day is to raise awareness about the importance of unstructured play. As research shows, play is an important part of the classroom and “contributes to developing the whole child. Through play, a child's creativity, physical and cognitive abilities are refined and strengthened.”
All of our students are invited to bring in items to play with on Wednesday. No trading cards please. In addition:
1. The toy or game needs to be school appropriate.
2. It should not be an electronic gadget.
3. Students will need to share what they bring in with others in their class.
4. If it is a very special or expensive toy, it should probably stay at home.
5. Students should be able to play with the item without adult help.
It is our hope that this one day of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured play time during non-school hours.
For more information about Global Play Day please visit their website.
It promises to be a fun day of play!
