Hello Lakeview Families!

Thank you so much for all of your support with our Holiday Shop and Book Fair. Our students LOVED getting to gift buy at the Holiday Shop and Book Fair. Neither of these events can take place with out your support and the help from our PTA and volunteers:)

**Please have your kiddos check lost and found and when you come for class parties next week, please check for items. Lost and found is over flowing and items will be donated to a good cause on Thursday 12/20.

Have a great weekend!

Coding with Kids

Coding with Kids is excited to be coming to Lakeview Elementary in the Winter/Spring with our coding and programming classes! Our “Little Coders Robotics” class for grades K-2 is an opportunity for young children to develop their computational thinking skills, build their first programs, and have fun with new friends! Our “Game Development” class for grades 3-5 kids to computer programming through the fun and excitement of building video games. Working in Scratch, a drag-and-drop programming tool, students will create everything from animations to multi-level games. They will learn the core concepts of programming a game, such as loops, conditionals, and variables.

Classes begin the week of January 23rd and will meet once a week from 3:05-4:05pm for 12 weeks. Class information, schedules and registration are available at www.codingwithkids.com.

Compulsory Attendance

We understand students miss school for various reasons. However, please understand that if your child has missed more than 8 school days (excused or unexcused) you will receive a letter from Lakeview regarding attendance. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

Traffic Patterns for Arrival and Dismissal

Our traffic patterns have not changed - they are the same for arrival and dismissal as they have been in previous years. Please refer to the pictures below for directions.

Ride Changes

Big picture
Parents please be sure to send an email to LakeviewElem@nisdtx.org and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big picture
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
