A Year of Gratitude
August 30, 2019
From the Principal...
Dear Seton Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School. We are truly blessed as a school to begin another year's journey toward our mission.
With Jesus as our model, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School’s mission is to guide each individual student to God. We believe in creating a religious environment with an academic challenge by providing our students with the tenets of our Catholic faith in order to grow successfully as Catholic citizens in society. We believe the education process must reflect a Catholic faith presence shown by our example, attitudes, service, values, and interactions with all whom we come in contact.
As a Catholic school, we will continue to welcome all of those who enter our school community. We will focus on our faith as well as academics, being sure to model gratitude, service, and acceptance. We will work together to maintain an environment filled with joy and tolerance while also growing in both our knowledge and our faith.
I ask that as members of our Seton Catholic School Community, you open your minds and hearts to the possibilities before us and ask the Holy Spirit to fill us all so that we may create an amazing Catholic educational environment for all who enter our doors. Together, we will have a great school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephanie Nardi, Principal
For Our Beautiful Teachers and Staff
I was dropping off my little and I saw your warm and genuinely welcoming face when you greeted him once he was out of the car. There was a fleeting change of your face that happened just seconds before that, though... so subtle, most eyes wouldn’t catch it.
But I saw it.
Seconds before you greeted him, your face was somber. Pensive. You were thinking of something else, your mind far away from the steady stream of cars before you. You had a tiny, 6 second break between doors opening, and I wondered where your mind went.
Maybe to today’s to-do list or your lesson plans or an impending meeting with an unhappy parent.
But I wondered if maybe, just maybe, your heart wasn’t on campus at all.
•Maybe it was on how you and your spouse left the house in an argument this morning.
•Maybe it was because he slept on the couch last night. Again.
•Maybe you have a child who has a doctor’s appointment today that you won’t get to go to because you have to teach my child what sound T and H make together.
•Maybe you dropped your child off at college and your soul is hurting.
•Maybe you realized you left your checkbook and urgent bills on the counter or you’re worried your daughter didn’t grab her lunch box because she was running out the door late to catch her bus.
•Maybe you are worried about your aging mother in Ohio or the endless financial strain you’ve been living under as a single mom.
•Maybe you have a teenager who refuses to speak to you or a toddler who is allergic to something you can’t figure out.
•Maybe you’re worried about your dog that you’re probably going to have to make a heartbreaking decision about soon... the dog you’ve had since you were in college.
•Maybe you didn’t get enough sleep last night or for the last six months since your new baby arrived.
•Maybe you wish you chose a different job. A different path. A different life.
I don’t know what you were thinking or what was on your heart, but I want to thank you.
Thank you for opening the car door and choosing my son over the burden of your heart. In that moment, you made him feel seen and wanted and loved and important. You being present for him at 7:30 AM makes it easier for me to drive off and leave him every day. You being present for him requires you to sacrifice so much of yourself in such a split second of time.
And I saw you do it today.
You’ll do it again tomorrow, and I’ll pray for you as I see you make that choice. You’ll keep making that choice and I’ll keep believing that wherever that loved one is that you’re having to put on your heart’s back burner so you can love on my child, he or she is also feeling seen and wanted and loved and valued by whoever is opening the door for them.
Thank you.
For the rest of my life, thank you for choosing my child.
Making someone feel seen is such holy, sacred work. You do it so well. ️
Prayer and Fellowship
You are invited to stay after our first day of school Mass on Tuesday, September 3 and join us in praying the Rosary together...for the kids, the teachers, staff and a beautiful blessed school year! We'll place it all in Mary's hands, Our Queen of Victory & Peace! Then we will gather in the back of HNJ church after Rosary for some breakfast treats and Seton family fellowship. Feels like a beautiful way to kick off the school year!
Sponsored and coordinated by the Faith Development Committee.

Students may not be dropped off before 7:30am as there will be no supervision and our doors will be locked. Drop off time begins at 7:30am and school begins at 7:55am.
Safety for All
Please help us by following school policies and procedures. Parents, volunteers, and visitors MUST sign in at the office when they are in the school from 7:45 to 3:00. The only exception to this is the drop-off of a child in 4K or kindergarten. Those early childhood students may be walked to their classrooms beginning at 7:45. Any children in grades 1-8 should NOT be accompanied by a parent or guardian into the hallways. We will make an exception to this on the first week of school. Parents and guardians are welcome to drop-off forgotten items or leave messages for their children in the school office during the day. While you are welcome to come in for lunch with your child, please stop in the office to sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave.
Door access during school hours is restricted. From 7:30 to 8am the front main doors on Superior and the back door off of the playground will be unlocked for student entry. Prior to 7:30, all doors will be locked to the building.
At 7:55am the back door will be locked. All students or guests arriving after 7:55am must enter through the main doors on Superior Avenue and go to the office to sign in. At no time during school hours, 7:30am to 3:30pm, should anyone be entering any of our other doors even if they have a key to the building. The main doors on Superior Avenue are the only allowed entrance from 7:55am to 3:30pm.
Together we can keep all of students and staff.
Drop-off and Pick-up
When picking up your children at the end of the day, our procedures are the same as last school year. In the back parking lot the drive through lane is for entering and exiting the lot only. There should be no students entering or exiting a vehicle in this lane.
Students in grades 5-8 may walk to a parked vehicle and may escort a younger sibling. Students in grades K-4 will remain behind the cones to be picked up by a parent or guardian. 4K students should be picked up in their classroom.
Seton Choir Begins September 24
All Seton students in Grades 2 - 8 are invited to join the Seton Choir! Rehearsals are in the Music Room on Tuesdays right after school from 3:00 - 3:45. (Students are dismissed onto the parking lot afterward.) This is a great opportunity to expand your singing skills as well as learning to sing harmony! The Choir will sing at some school Masses, the Seton concerts, and possibly some special events.
Our first rehearsal for this school year is Tuesday, September 24th. Students do not need to audition. A schedule and information sheet will be handed out at that first rehearsal. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Engman at 920-452-1571 or engmanj@sheboyganseton.org
Welcome Our New Staff Members
This school year brings with it some new faces with great talents. We are welcoming two new teachers. Molly Steinacker, a graduate of St. Norbert College, is our new fourth grade teacher. Our new Spanish teacher, Crystal Dalkin, comes to us with a degree in Spanish and experience working in the Sheboygan Falls School District. We are also happy to welcome two classroom aides, Joyce Herr and Monica Gerardi. On our playground we have added Stephanie Paulus, one of our kindergarten parents. Stephanie will also be joining Azulema Garcia and Sara Lancour as aftercare supervisors. We are truly blessed and know each of these new faces will bring with them many talents to add to our amazing Seton School staff.
Meet Crystal Dalkin, Our New Spanish Teacher
Hello! My name is Crystal Dalkin.
I am so excited to join the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Family as the new Spanish Teacher. I fell in love with the language as a child and received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. I spent a summer studying public health in the Dominican Republic. I have spent the last two years working with the Special Education Department in another district and prior to that I was a Spanish Interpreter and Translator.
My other interests include Fitness (I love teaching ZUMBA and Yoga) and nutrition. I also love spending time with my family up north and gardening.
A Service Opportunity
If you would like to participate, drop off any donations at the Seton School office and we will make sure they are delivered to St. Dominic for the event.
