OUSD Teacher Strike Information
OEA Strike
As you know OEA announced that its members will go on strike this Thursday, February 21. Experiencing a strike will not be easy for anyone. But we have a strong community, and I have faith that when it is over, we will again come together to work towards our mission of providing a joyful, equitable educational experience that fosters enthusiasm for learning and encourages a growth mindset for children and adults by recognizing and supporting diverse learning styles, inspiring personal and social responsibility, and promoting the academic development of our students.
During the strike, I will be at school every day, as required to keep the students who come to school safe. But the day before, on February 20, I will be joining a contingency of OUSD principals going to Sacramento to advocate on behalf of our schools, attending a forum with State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and hopefully additional meetings with government officials. Though it will take me away from campus, this is a great opportunity at an important time.
Like the teachers, I care deeply about the quality of education all Oakland students deserve and worry about how difficult it is for teachers to afford to live and work in our city. I appreciate the effort and care our teachers put forth every day and want them to be well compensated.
